Station Line LCD TV, Worst Idea ever?

You know, wasn't there a discussion a few weeks ago about how POVs are nothing like the real ride? I think the TV (including the POV) is a wonderful idea. It gets people excited to ride. Most people are not going to stand in front of the TV and watch the entire loop. In fact, I'd venture a guess that you wouldn't have time to watch the entire loop because the line will have moved by then. You all are complaining about this just because you feel you need something to complain about. If you take newbies to the park, and you want the element of surprise to be there, then tell them to not watch the screen.

This is a great idea. As people have mentioned, it will make the line feel quicker and get you pumped for the ride.

Anyways, for those of you who believe this will somehow ruin the experience of new riders, it will probably be turned off and covered with a black tarp by next year, so no worries. :)

Hail to the Victors

So i'm torn. I think cedar point coul have used the money more wisely but I do not think it is a bad decision. For those that dont want to watch, turn your head. And it's not like the ride is a total secret, all of the elements are posted on the poster outside the entrance.

And how could you come off saying it's the worst idea ever? a little overdramatic i'd say.

none the less, the ride is amazing.

How does a TV at the base of the station stairs make the line seem shorter? Aren't you going to get on the ride in like 10 minutes or less at that point? Or, can you see the TV from the entire queue house?

It can be seen from (at least if your tall) anywhere in the old White Water Landing station.

I would assume they meant to say that the tv gives you something to occupy your time with, making the line seem shorter, in comparison to just staring at the back of the person in front of you.

I think it is kind of foolish to show at least the regular POV of the ride, especially if you haven't been on it before, but the reverse pov, and the time lapse construction was neat to see.

Yes it is new and I saw it last night. I love the fact that they show some great video of the overall ride, some good construction video and a cool time lapse. (I almost thought that maybe some of this video could have been Jeff's.) However, I can totally do without seeing someone else's on-ride video though and their photos. That is totally stupid! and lame!

I was there the day that they were installing it. They installed the mount and put up the T.V. on the 6th. I wish that it would have been running while i was there. An hour and thirty minute waits are brutal.

Wow, you people complain too much. I'm all for in-line entertainment.

Yeah I don't get why people wouldn't like it. It makes it go faster!

Seems like a brillant idea to me, even with the POV! My friend knew about the launch in the tunnel, and it still suprised her, even me for that fact, I wasn't expecting it to be as intense as it was! To all the people complaining, get over it, it is just a simple television to improve the whole experience of Maverick, its not hurtin you any to have a television in the line, just don't watch!

I never can understand on here how when someone presents a different perspective about things, they are automatically complaining and are generalized as being negative. I'm not complaining and don't think others are. If you read my first post, in my opinion, having an on ride POV right before you ride Maverick takes away from the experience, especially for first time riders. I'm all for in line entertainment as well, but not that.

Besides, what else would be there to watch in line?

let's see... the ride racing into the tunnel, other people's conversations to hear, dance to the cool western music, eat dippin dots, talk to friends, look at the showcase of stuff in the windows, see the pretty waterfall in the old trough from WWL and throw pennies in, watch schools of fish swim around in the pond, and well I can't think of any more.

You forgot watch the vending machines eat guests money.

Yeah, I don't need the park to entertain me in line. I go to parks with my friends, so we make our own fun. I always have to chuckle to myself when I see people in line with a group of "friends" and they're all texting on their cell phones. I swear people don't know how to be social anymore.

Besides, if the TV is showing on-ride photos and prices as part of the clips, I'm sure a lot of their motivation for the TV was to make money. If it was purely to "entertain" people in line, they would've just had the construction clips, and other items you didn't have to pay for.

If a queue has music, that's all I need. I'll talk with my friends to keep me entertained.

Why are you all complaining about a LCD TV? Complaining about the missing canyons on Maverick...I understand. But complaining about a TV? I don't get it.

Do you think the average person who goes to Cedar Point and has never been on Maverick before will watch the POV from start to finish in line and think, 'Oh darn. I just watched the whole ride, now it wont be entertaining to me when I really ride. What a stupid TV.'

Watching a TV with a POV and riding are two very different things. I don't think it will ruin the ride for anybody. If I'm not mistaken, the POV is shown in the commercial AND has been on the website since it was announced. So what's the difference of having it in line?

If you ask me, I think the thing they really need in the WWL portion of the queue is fans.

I agree.

Also, I thought it was really cool how the turned a piece of the original WWL chute coming out of the station into a waterfall. I noticed that the second time I waited in line.

^ And how many "average people" notice that? Does that make it a stupid idea? No. But, we're enthusiasts. We notice things. What's the problem if some of us think the POVs on the TV are a bad idea?

Absolutely!!!!

Speaking of the WWL part - old video of WWL might be a neat thing to show on there, especially the station part.

I agree. And to all of you who think we're saying the "t.v." is a bad idea, No ones saying the t.v. is bad... we're saying the POV is a bad idea, maybe not the backwards, but the front yes, i've been twice now with the t.v. there, both last week, and 90% of peoples eyes are drawn to the t.v., and people get others to look at it when the POV comes on. When you're doing nothing and there's a t.v. there, you look at it..some of you people are stupid. The t.v. is sweet and almost everyone was hooked on the time-lapse thing, but it does ruin the experience of the "surprise" tunnel, if it isn't a surprise anymore.

Also, i don't get why they never put fans at any part of the lines there, it's nice to be in shade, but in the WWL station part of it, all the heat from people gets trapped in there. Speaking of fans, i wish they would use the same fans that are in Magnums line. Magnum has the best fans with the water sprayers in the middle of it, the newer ones ect. Millennium, Dragster, don't work as well with the water on the outsides..the design of the fans got worse. If they havent heard anyone complain about the fans in Mavericks line yet, i'm sure they will soon. I'd expect there to be fans in the line by the end of the year. *** Edited 7/16/2007 2:15:54 AM UTC by TTDCP***
