Steel or Wood?

Lets just say you are the head chief around the park and can choose what coaster Cedar Point will get. Say your choices are either a CCI Out and Back woodie or a Floorless. Remember, I didn't say how big or anything, but what would you pick and why?

Personally, I would pick the woodie because Cedar Point lacks a good air-time woodie which CCI could provide to the park. Plus CP has enough steelies for me! ;)
No good air-time woodie? What about Blue Streak? That thing has monster airtime on the first couple hills, and then on the way back.

I do agree that a compact woodie with airtime would be nice, though.
I know this isn't a choice, but how 'bout GhostRider? Seriously, not a twin, but REAL close would be sweet, in my opinion.

Flooess coasters are highly over-rated(unless your in teh front seat). I would definatly have to say a woodie somewhere but that's jsut me! ;)

"Your obssesed w/ that place aren't you?" (as stated by my best-friends about CP)
CCI woodie, go ride villain and you will all agree
But then again, lets wait till the end of the year for this and go ride MF.

I wouldn't mind something similar to the Beast. With a huge double helix or something like that. It always feels like the cars are going to fly right of the tracks!

"Aaahhh BUCKLE THIS! LUDICROUS SPEED, GO!!!!!"-Spaceballs
Cedar Point only has 2 woodies,(4 if you count steel tub tracks) I think they need to get another to add the the collection

Definantly A CCI woodie. Mean Streak is just boring and Blue Streak is too small. IMHO.

MF COUNT- 4
I think that something like a CCI huge out and back would be nice near the back of the park. Big hills going out, huge helix turn around similar to SOB and airtime hills coming back - similar to steel force @ dp, but wood,
CCI woodie, definatly because of the Air Time!

I think a CCI woodie up and down the beach would be great. The view would be one thing! I think it should basicly be out and back but then a great finish with lots of speed until the finish. You just don't get speed with Mean Streak it seems like. I would love some big helix or twisted track at the end to give it definition. If the did do this, they should definately make it very beautiful and make it sort of Cedar Points Skyline with the Big Wheel and Space Sprial right there.

I think a Floorless would be great, don't get me wrong, but I would rather see the woodie first. I think a Floorless would go great near Mean Streak cough cough. ;) I think when, I mean if they build one, they should have the most inversions and make it go underground a half dozen times with rocks and tall grasses as the themeing. Call it, say, Avalance or something of that sort ;)
I would like to see a b&m launched floorless unlike the rest of you. Launched coasters are awesome plus screamscape says there are rumors of a launched coaster for 2002 season.
CP is really in the market for a ride to fit between the Mean Streak and Gemini level. A CCI woodie would be perfect for this and as I said above could form a great skyline for CP to use as a logo or whatever. Just would have to relocate Disaster Transport....oh, wouldn't want that job.

2001 - Prepare Lakefront for CCI Woodie
2002 - Build CCI Woodie
2003 - Launched Floorless Coaster (CP needs a launched ride)
2004 - Build second track next to MF and make it dueling (hehe, just kidding but wouldn't that be sweet? ;) ) *** This post was edited by PO!NT Fan on 5/26/2000. ***

I would liek to see a new woodie first, but some people might be used to all the steel's CP has been putting out

CCI woodie hands down!! We need another woodie, love blue streak, love gemini, love how that one whips you over the edge! So I say we need a woodie! LOL One question for you true woodie fans though....Gemini is not considered, by alot of coaster fans, to be a true woodie because of the tube track. Should CCI's like Villian, be considered true woodies since they have a steel structure? Just curious.

The more you ride it, the more you want it!

Yes -- CCI's like Villain are woodies, because the track is laminated wood. For the most part it's the TRACK that defines how a coaster rides.

To use a famous, older, example -- The Coney Island Cyclone is considered a wooden coaster, but most of the support structure is actually steel (which is something I didn't know until recently, even though I've ridden it!)

Gemini is a great ride, but it's not a woodie. That tubular steel track gives a totally different ride.

No wood coasters, unless they have steel tube tracks. I'm not overly fond of all wood coasters at CP, and I wouldn't want the space wasted on a wood coaster.

I think they need to make a new Cedar Point logo (probably should be a new thread). I would love to see the shaddow of a wooden coaster, the Giant wheel, and the space sprial in the back ground and then the same curvy text CEDAR POINT above it with something looking like a shore. Of course they would need to build the coaster first. :)
NathanWLB, got to agree hands down with you on this one. IMO the woodies at CP are terrible. And the maintenance on a woodie versus steel, well that's another subject. Remember folks, this is just my opinion, not the "cut down parade". Even though I despise the MS, I rode it once this year as a gesture of good will. Ride BS again? Not going to happen as long as MF is still kicking.
