Still at the top of my list

Just got back yesterday from Dollywood and Amusement Today's #1 wooden coaster in the World, Thunderhead. It's fast...much faster than I expected, and the banking turns are something to experience. Rode it three times, with the best being rear seat on the 3rd run of the day. It made my 78th coaster credit.

BUT

I was fortunate enough to get 15 of Cedar Point's 16 coasters in August of 2004, and Dragster still sits atop my list of best coasters. Millennium Force is 2nd and Magnum XL-200 is fourth.

My point is this...I salute all of you people who are lucky enough to call Cedar Point your "home" park. There really is something very special about the park and the amazing coasters there...most of all Dragster. I hope to get back in 2007 to expereince it again, but untill then I'm almost certain it will remain my #1.

Thinking of CP,
Stephen

Any Dragster fan is welcome in my book. It's good......no....Great!! to hear it tops your favorite list. It's been my #1 favorite for 3(going on 4) years and it'll always be.:)

I really want to ride Hades. I've been to both Dollywood and the WI Dells, but nothing was open as it was the off season.

Still don't understand how someone could say something so quick is their #1. :)

I'm hittin Holiday World this year for Voyage and Six Flags Magic Mountain for Tatsu. I'll also stop at Knot's while I am out there. Gotta put that season pass to use.

However... Magnum is my one.. Some of you that do not get to other parks are not quite aware of how lucky we are in some aspects. Sure, some parks may have coasters that Cedar Point just does not have and they may seem awesome.. But as an overall experience, Cedar Point blows all the parks away...

I’m really looking forward to getting a ride on it this summer. The banking on those turns is incredible. A friend of mine rode it a few months ago and said its his new number one. Its looks Absolutely Amazing!;)

I also can’t wait for The Voyage. *** Edited 4/11/2006 3:52:57 AM UTC by 99er***

I'll agree with you on this one...for the most part. I still have to have Magnum at the top of my list, but Millennium Force and Dragster come in very close at #'s 2 and 3. I have ridden 147 coasters in the United States, and Cedar Point's coasters have always been at the top of my list!

I'm firmly in the philosophy that a truly great coaster is more than just the ride itself and TTD inspires awe like no other. As you drive across the causeway to Cedar Point you can see it sitting in the distance, like a sentinel for the entire park. While MF's lift hill is a wonder of engineering, Dragster's launch is audible from hundreds of yards away and it sounds unique...like power personified. And the que line sits in the dead center of the ride, which gives you as much time as possible to experience Dragster without actually riding it.

As another poster said, when I wear my Cedar Point T-Shirt to other parks other coaster riders, who actually know what Cedar Point is, don't ask me what I thought of the park...they don't ask me about MF...they don't ask me if I got all 16 credits....THEY DO simply ask me "Did you ride Dragster". I reply with a good ol' boy "Yup, and it sits firmly atop my list. It's that good."

I agree that Magnum is VERY, VERY, good. This & Gemini were probably the biggest suprises of my trip to CP. I've yet to expereince more airtime than provided by the bunny hills at the end of Magnum.

And, just to throw it out there, here is my complete Top Ten list...
1) Dragster - Cedar Point
2) Millennium Force - Cedar Point
3) Mindbender - Six Flags Over Georgia
4) Magnum XL 200 - Cedar Point
5) Space Mountain - WDW Magic Kingdom
6) The Beast - PKI
7) Thunderhead - Dollywood
8) Montu - Busch Gardens Tampa Bay
9) Gemini - Cedar Point
10) Top Gun, The Jet Coaster - Paraount's Carowinds

That is not exactly the phrase I would use to describe TTD's relationship to the park.

Dragster isn't even a top 5 for me. Not among coasters. I've said it before, I guess I'll say it again. It's a great thrill ride, but a mediocre (at best) coaster.

Absolutely. For me, you can't separate the fact that its only 17 seconds in duration. That is a huge disadvantage when looking at the fun factor. I love the ride, but not as much as many others in the park.

I wish we could trade Knotts for Xcelerator. :)

And this is the best thing about coasters...we each experience the same ride but leave with different opinions of it. No one can argue that TTD is only 17 seconds, but for me those 17 seconds pack more enjoyment than the other 77 coasters I've ridden. I'll also admit that the aura (see above) of TTD does something for me. This is solely my opinion, and I'm well aware that I'm in a miniority.

Darn yall people who call Cedar Point your home park!

I live here in Wisconsin and must say Hades is by far my favorite wood coaster. The thing about it though is that it has only 1 train operation, so the line moves really slowly. It would be cool if they had 2 trains. Then both could be in the tunnel at the same time, and if they put headlights on the front of each train it would look like they are going to collide with each other.

JuggaLotus's avatar

If I remember right (from the special that was on TV a couple weeks ago) the tunnel under the parking lot is just one giant turn around, with no blocks, meaning you couldn't have two trains running through there at the same time. I'm surprised that there is only one train on there. Sometimes the operational decisions for rides is just baffling.

Absolutely Dragster is the best ride ever. Pki is my home park but cp is close enough for me to make a few trips a year. 3 Hours away. Any one to have cp close enough to make a few trips a year is very lucky in my book.

47 year old coaster lover..Making my first trip to cedar point this summer.I live in Florida so will have limited time to ride Dragster but it's on my must ride list! To this date my favorites list includes Universals Incredible Hulk, just rode Shiekra at Busch and it is awesome! Kraken at Sea World rates above Montu for me. I went to Busch Gardens Williansburg last summer and Loch Ness and Alpengeist are great coasters. My record on any coaster is 10 in a row on Hulk.I know I probably won't break any records in two days at Cedar point this summer but I am looking forward to riding as many as possible. My best wooden coaster to date is Ghost Rider at Knott's . Gwazi at Busch is great because of the two tracks..short lines most of the time. From description here of Cedar ,my daughter and I should have a blast(she's 15)!!!! wife is another story..wouldn't get her NEAR millenium or dragster...

Hades is probably my most favorite wooden coaster of all time; atleast thus far. It's a great ride with quite a bit of air time!

Fatfish1,

You will have a GREAT TIME!

I think when I'm done at Cedar Point for my first time 6/21-22 MF will be my favorite. TTD will be close if I build up the courage to ride.

I my self have been to Dollywood, and have riden ThunderHead. Yes it is number 1 for a reason, just from all the curves, sharp turns, and the station flyby. But Cedar Point is at the top of my list still.
