Thoughts and Predictions for CP 2000!

Time to look into the CP crystal ball and make personal analysis/predictions for CP 2000. This thread is NOT a debate thread, but instead to be a collection of people's personal feelings and thoughts as to how the 2000 season will go down in CP history. Only post your thoughts and your thoughts only. Don't debate nor criticize anyone else's predictions. Have fun with it, and let your imagination run wild! Hopefully we can look back at this thread at the end of the 2000 season and see who's prediction was the most accurate. So, without further ado, he's my prediction.

-Millennium Force-

A huge winner still waiting be born. Although I feel it will be very successful, there are a few drawbacks that I am going to predict. Looking at the diagrams of the first hill, the curved piece of track at the top that sends the train from a horizontal position to a vertical position and the curved piece at the bottom of the first drop that send the train from a vertical position back to a horizontal position are both unusually large for a roller coaster. Thus, leaving a small section of track that will make up the 80-degree drop. The top curved piece of track looks to take up about 75 vertical feet of the height before it reaches the 80-degree piece. Then the bottom curved piece looks to start at around 100 feet, only leaving about 100-125 feet of 80-degree track. To me it looks like the first drop is going to end as quickly as it begins. Weather or not this will take away from the thrill of the first drop…well we'll just have to wait and see. One of the biggest elements of the whole ride is all of its overbanked turns. The banked turns is where I'm going to predict that this rides main claim to fame will be. Sort of like all the bunny hops on Magnum. The other draw back that I think is the lack of bunny hops for airtime. It only looks like this ride is getting one bunny hop, which I think people will have a minor disappointment with. Because it lacks bunny hops, I ?????? ???? ?????? ???? ????? ??? ??? ????? ??? ???? ????? ??????? ???? ?? ?????? ? ??? ??? ??? ???????? ?????? ??? ???? ??????? ?????? ????? ???????? ???? ??? ???? ???? ?? ?? ? ????????? ??? ???? ???? ???? ???? ?????? ???? ????? ??? ?????? ??? ???? ?? ??? ????? ?? ???? ???????? ??? ?????? ???? ?? ? ??? ???????? ??? ? ???? ?? ???? ?? ?????? ?? ???? ???? ??? ???? ????? ????? ? ????? ?? ????? ???? ??? ?????? ?? ??? ?????? ???????????????????? ???? ???????? ????? ?? ?? ? ????? ??????? ?????????? ?????? ???? ? ??? ?????????????????????? ????? ????? ????????????????????? ??????????????????????? ????? ??? ? ????? ??? ?? ?????? ????? ??? ???? ???? ????? ????? ???? ???????? ???? ??? ? ??? ???????? ?? ??????? ??? ????? ? ??? ???? ?? ???? ???? ????? ?? ?? ? ?????????????????????????? ??????????????????????????? ????? ??????????????????????? ??????????? ???????????????????? ???? ??????? ??? ????? ?? ????? ????? ?? ??? ???????? ? ????? ????? ?? ???? ?? ?? ?????? ?????????? ?? ???? ?? ? ????????????? ??????? ???? ???? ????? ???? ??? ??? ??????????????????????? ???? ???????????????????? ?? ???? ???????????????????????? ????????????????????? ???? ? ????? ?? ?????? ?? ?????? ??? ?? ?????? ??? ??? ????? ??? ?? ?? ???? ???? ?? ???? ? ?? - ??????? ? ????? ???? ? ??? ???? ??????? ????? ???? ?? ??? ????? ?????? ????? ???? ??? ???????? ?????? ?????? ??? ?????? ??? ?? ??? ???? ???? ???? ?? ? ????? ???????? ?? ??? ??? ????? ???? ????? ??????? ?????? ???? ?? ????? ???? ???? ?????? ??? ?????? ?? ??? ??????? ?? ???? ?????????? ???????? ???? ???? ??? ????? ?? ?? ???? ???? ???? ?? ??? ???? ??? ???? ?? ???? ?? ? ??? ?? ????? ???? ?????? ???? ?? ??? ??????? ?? ???? ????? ?? ??? ????? ????? ?? ???? ???? ??? ?????? ????? ???? ??? ??? ???????????? ???????? ?????? ????????????? ??? ????? ??? ?????? ????? ? ???? ???? ?? ???? ??????? ??? ?? ???? ?? ????????????? ?? ???? ???? ??? ????? ??????????? ????????????????????????? ????? ??? ?? ??????? ??? ???? ???? ? ???? ???? ?? ??? ???????????????????? ????? ??eel and Space Spiral are to close to each other.

-Halloweekends-

Not a lot of change here also. Admission prices will go up and half the park will be closed on Fridays along with Magnum. The haunted houses will still be a bit lame, but not as lame as other years.

POSITIVES: Great way to end the season.
NEGATIVES: Nothing new about it.

-Season Pass Announcement for 2001-

The cost will go up another $10. I already have confirmation that the passes will be made of hard plastic and not the laminated ones that they are currently using.

POSITIVES: New pass format.
NEGATIVES: They will leech us for another $10.

-Overall-

The 2000 season will go down in CP history as one of the best. Attendance will be up, but only slightly. It will be another hot summer at the Point. Hopefully the lake water level will be up so when you go to take a swim at the beach, the water will be higher than your knees.

POSITIVES: Very memorable season. Not to be missed.
NEGATIVES: It's still currently wintertime!!!!!!!!

Regarding that pull-out at the bottom of the hill... you do want to keep your lungs in your chest and not your legs, right?

cpboy, I think that was a good prediction of some of what is to come for the 2000 season...
Although I'm not one to analyze a rollercoaster bit by bit, I'm just after the ultimate thrill! And I don't think that I will be disappointed by MF!

For the re-development of the Space Spiral midway, I do see something happen, but I think that CP has some sort of surprise up it's sleeve, one that has not been discussed over here.

I'd like to take a peek further in the future and look maybe 5 years down the road...

First off, I see the landscaping and wooded feel make a slow return to trail area, as trees are planted around MF, that all will begin to fill back in. It was also discussed before about relocating the parking lot to the mainland, and expanding the park (This is NOT a discussion of a space problem!). I tend to sit on the fence with this idea, (I can see it happen, but still not sure if it will.. this would be a very costly project) If anything, I do see at least another resort hotel going up somewhere on the peninsula (or at least further expansions of the existing ones).

Any thoughts??

Well the select few people-"coaster enthusiasts" like to "pick" at a coaster-especially new ones. I tend comparing one ride element to the next. Though the real money raked in is by the GP. If they are happy, they come back. If they findg CP a waste, (who would?) they won't go back. But us here go numerous times a year and get used to the rides. IMO, I think MF's biggest year will be 2001-The new millennium and the GP will wait a year for reviews, word of mouth, etc..

I think MF will be very popular with the GP and coaster enthusiasts as long as it does not have any major mechanical problems – like constant break downs or a rough ride. But I don’t think this will happen.
I don’t see CP starting a major boardwalk project this year. Since it seems like CP likes to build major rides every couple of years and do other grounds and structural work in between, I think the boardwalk project be not be ready until 2001.
I think attendance will go up, but not dramatically. MF will attract people, but SFOO will draw some people away, especially those who have never been to CP or GL and have to choose one. But the people who normally go to CP will continue to go, and go more often because of MF.
Personally, I can’t wait for May!

I think attendence will remain the same. The admission hike will turn some people off, especially those who could care less about a 300ft coaster and want more family attractions. But MF will draw more people and balance it out.

MF should be a smash. My only regret is that I wish it were a little longer. In the second tunnel, instead of turning left to go back to the station, I wish it turned right, swung around by the first banked curve and then procede through a series of bunny hops back to the station. But it's obvious that it will reign.

The Giant Wheel will get more attention with a refurbishing and new location.

That's it! No need to talk about other attractions because there are none.

I think attendance will go up, I wouldn’t be surprised if CP has a record season next year. Just like during Magnum’s first year. The excitement level for MF is already very high around the Cleveland area, and if the commercials for it are like the new video, I expect it to be an irresistible draw. I think CP probably has formulated a very hard hitting campaign for MF that’ll focus right at Six Flags’ target market for SFO.

I think the weather will have more influence on the attendance than anything else. The key difference between a 3.5 and 4 million guest year will depend on the weather on weekends in June and late August/early September. July and early August will be busy no matter what. That extra 500,000 people though... it's all going to be about the weather.

I have a very strong feeling, I don't know why, but I think that the MF tunnels will made that noise that you hear on the promo when they show it's symbol in space.
It is a lot longer than it looks. Almost as long as Mean Streak and That ain't bad. It might seem short though. Look at Corkscrew and Magnum. Same ride time but Corkscrew seems much shorter than Magnum.

One more thing.
Intamin has a history of puting fog or mist machines on or near it's rides. so it wouldn't surprise me if Millennium Force had some fog around it.

What is everyones fascination with digging up ancient threads?

djDaemon's avatar

Yeah! I mean, why do people look at old pictures? Hell, why do they even take pictures?

;)

bholcomb's avatar

Bringing up an old thread would be like photoshopping the Millennium Force into a Cedar Point picture from 1980.

djDaemon's avatar

Or its simply nostalgic.

So read, don't post?

My predition for Cedar Point in the year 2000 is, the gas to get there will be a lot cheaper than it will be in 2008.

I'll be back!

JuggaLotus's avatar

Did you read the thread before posting that?

And I'm going to disagree and say that gas wasn't cheaper, but the dollar held more value.

So Jugga, I'm guessing you work for a company that will furnish your paycheck in euros, lira or yen? ;)
