TTD Freeway 2004

We all know that the Freeway wasn't up in 2003, but has anyone heard any news yet about 04? I would assume it would be, considering they promised to have it fully operational, and it's their main marketing target this year.

Has anyone heard anything official?

Offseason Fever: Is it May yet?

It really depends on how the ride runs this summer. If it's running relitivly poorly, then you won't see it. But if it's running well this year, they have the equipment to do so already. I'm guessing it will have it this year, but it won't be official untill after the season starts.

yeah, i could go for some fast passing action. it should be up but you never know...

i'm guessing yes, though.

Guess what? I got a fever! And the only prescription... is more cowbell!

In the Getaway Guide this year they say it will have it.
That sounds convincing enough for me :)

The Getaway guide said ttd would have freeway last year too.

Yeah, it did, but that was before they knew that it was going to be down as much as it was. If Dragster is running good this year I think they will do freeway.

What's this freeway your talking about. Are you refering to the midway that the dragster is located in (gemini midway).

Freeway is a system were they give out a certain number of handstamps per hour that have a later hour for the day. You come back when you're in the hour on which the stamp says so and you get to walk all the way up to the ramp right before the station. There is more about it at the official website.

Final 2003 Stats: Trips: 37
Top Thrill Dragster: 17
Magnum XL-200: 85 (last train of the year in 6-1)

In a Norwalk Reflector article Janice Witherow said TTD will use FreeWay this year, so unless there are terrible problems again, we'll probably see it in use.

Oh! I cant believe that I forgot about that. I had one one time but I never got to use it because me and my friends had a choise of going on either Mean Streak or Millenium Force (which I had my hand stamped for). It was around 5:35 and the stamp expired at 6.., but we went on MS becase I had'nt been on it in such a long time.

I STILL regret NOT using MY FREEWAY PASS!! :(

FreeWay isn't the greatest thing in the world on mosts days. For one, you have to wait in a long line to get the stamp, the busier it is, the longer the line. There is a risk of not getting a stamp if they run out, particularly bad on busy days. They do give the stamps out sequentially to give at least some indication of not to get into a long line when it's nearing the end of the day. You get the time stamp and a big black stamp over it.

Add up the time in the stamp line, time in the remainder of the ride line, and the approximate inconveince in time of having to be at the stamp booth and the ride within a time frame. Might want to add the time it takes to scrub off the black stamp too. Unless it's a very long line for the ride, FreeWay isn't much of a times saver.

Tips: Avoid entering the line for the first 10 minutes of the hour or the last possible minute before your Stamp expires. Say you have a 3-4 stamp. By 3, there may be a line already built up for Freeway. (dependent on the ride) You will just be adding to your wait time. Same with the last minute, 4-5 stamp holders will be allowed in at 4. Also, you won't be allowed in before your given time.

The funny thing is that I did'nt wait in a line. I was putting my backpack in the MF lockers, and when I was done I heard my friends calling out to me. Apparently they had already got their hands stamped. I went over to them and they yanked my hand and were holding it up. I heard the stampers yelling "we have one stamp left". I was so confused, I did'nt know what was going on. But after 20 seconds my hand was let go and I looked at it to find that I had a stamp on it. My friends told me what it was and we went and got in line for MF.

But right before we went in line I took a look back at the booth to see a line of 70 people giving me a nasty look.

One thing I'll add about the long freeway lines, they take a lot less time than they look. Millennium Force, for example, had a line that extended from the kiosk near the enterance all the way to the tunnel where Frontier Trial starts. That line only took 10 minutes. Secondly, I have never waited more than 10 minutes to get on the ride when I use a freeway stamp. On a busy day, the line for MF is usually about 1.5 hrs. I'll take 20 minutes over 90 any day.

I definately agree with Scott. Some of the Freeway lines look intimidating, but they move fast. I'm willing to wait 10 minutes to get a stamp that will allow me to avoid a 2 hour line.

In the trip planner and the Halloweekend guides never said Top Thrill Dragster would have freeway. Everything that came out after June last season said that the ride wouldn't. So, it's looking like TTD will have the freeway system this year.

I always missed the good times for freeway. The only one I really used it for was Mantis and Raptor. By the time the line is gone for MF stamps the only time left is 9-10pm. It's not even worth getting by that time usually. The system is better than nothing though.

My quote came from that little 2003 folding map they hand you at the toll booth when you arrive at the park. In the Freeway description. I'm sure it was printed before june 2003 though, so your still right. If your timing is right , you can ride MF twice at the end of the day. Once with your stamp and then you normally have enough time to go in the regular line before closing. Then when you leave the park you have missed most of the traffic.

Back to freeway, I'm sure they thought about it last year, they after all had a freeway booth by the entrance all year next to a french fry stand. I'm sure that thing (booth) could have been moved at anytime. What a tease!

I wasn't really impressed with Freeway. SF Ga as well as other parks have a good system. You have what looks like a big pager that you activate at the ride entrance. It will vibrate when it is your turn. And you can "reserve" multiple times/rides. The bad part is you don't get to choose your seat. Each ride has dedicated seats.
Is that a Q-bot in your pocket, or are you just happy to see me?

I think Dick Kinzel himself is against a pay system.

I think Freeway rocks compared to the other systems out there at competing parks. Freeway is easy to use, convenient, has always saved me time in line, and its free !!!! Paying extra for this service is not good customer service IMO, especially given how the parks overcharge for most of their services (it nice to get something free once in a while).
