Update: June 20

^One thing I'm curious about is why they gashed a hole in the side of the trough right in front of the line of new footers.

^ CedarPoint is probly going to fill in that space in with footers within the next two to three weeks. But time will only tell! ;)

^Yeah, it's tooooo early to tell whether or not they use the trough or if they'll keep it and fill it back up.

IMO, they wont be keeping it and filling it back up with water.

Unless Scott is right and it is used for some water feature.:)

rathfodoom that is Mario, and to that guy above whose 35 you 35 and you can't type?

I was wondering that bridge they built, it looks like there is a giant hole. Could some of this coaster go underground? If you think about it, it can be kind of cool. The bridge can be kind of use for the exit and people could be walking out and see the trains go down into the hole. I do not know if it is for that, but it will kind of cool, but who knows just a though.

All we can say at this point is that anything's possible.

Tunnels, water jets;)......etc

Walt you're doing a great job keeping on task with this ride, but does anyone else feel like all the pictures start blending together and you begin to realize you're just looking at a lot of dirt and concrete? :)

Look at a set of construction pictures then look at the behind-the-scenes pictures of WWL that Walt took at the end of 2005. It really is unbelievable.

We'll miss you MrScott and Pete

Yes, Walt has been doing a great job keeping us updated. Many of my friends ask me:"What is that new ride at Cedar Point going to be?" I always tell them,"I don't know exactly what it will be, but just go to Pointbuzz.com and see for yourself." It is a lot of dirt and concrete, but those who go to this site know more about that dirt and concrete than most enthusiasts. :)

For some reason I'm beginning to think this may be a twin/racing coaster. It seems like all of the footers come in pairs...who knows.

If you said that about the pieces of track coming in what looks like pairs, I would agree. It has been a good 25 years since they put in a twin coaster. Plus it would make sense that construction has started so early. Then again, it might be highly themed and in 5 years none of it will work or be kept up. I am looking at you Disaster Transport. Anyway, I hope it is a racing/twin coaster. That would be sweet!

^And would have great capacity which equals shorter lines.

As I was looking at those pictures, I really got to thinking. It must be so hard to get each footer in the exact spot and distance away from the other footers so that each support can be in the exact spot where it needs to be to attach to the track. I mean how do they know where to place each footer? And how do they make each one, especially at their depth in the ground?

This year:
Maverick: 5
MF: 4
TTD: 2
Skyhawk: 5

It has always amazed me how they manage to get the footers in the exact location and height to match up with the steel. Terrain coasters are even crazier.

is there a spot around the construction area where someone can just sit and watch without obstruction? I see that theres a wall that blocks off most of the site, but i'm hoping to go check it out when i make my first trip to the point.

I don't think it's always quite as much of an art as it seems. Some are done with extreme precision, but others aren't. Look at the footers around the Millennium Force station for the transfer track and brake run (I looked for a good picture but couldn't find one that shows it very well), and you'll notice that they supports aren't perfectly in the center of the footer. Some are much closer to the edge on one side than they are on the other; They're clearly not centered at all. Now, granted, I'm not saying this is always true, or anything like that; it might only be Millennium, that's the only place I've really ever noticed it, but it does show that the footers aren't always, necessarily down to a perfect science.

Edit: Ramboozle, there's no bench there, but behind UR DADE isn't a bad place. Also right up against the "arrivals" area for the CP & LE RR, there are a few benches with an unobstructed view.

That'd be mighty rough on the groin area.....all i can picture is a cross between Raptor and Mantis going upside down 16 times.

This concept hurt my head at first 'til I grasped it....stick with me for a second. You'd be hanging from the track like Raptor but utilizing Mantis' restraints.

Ouch.

no...the new roller coaster will be a new concept of "neck breaking" proportions. It will be a windwalker design but instead of riders sitting down they will be dangling below the track. They are inverted (below the track) yet they'll be standing (well more like dangling lol)because they are strapped in only at the neck. Never has a roller coaster been so crazy lol ;)

There is nothing quite like becoming a human windshield on Millennium Force

^ Yep, that would definitely go along with the western theme back there in Frontier Town.

The whole noose thing and all.
