when i was in line for power tower and magnum,i seen some of them fans with the water hose hooked up to them,to create a mist over the q's.are these new?i dont remember seeing these last year,but i do remember seeing them in the mean streak line the year it opend.
I remember seeing them appear about halfway through the season last year. Do they have them in the MF q ?

I especially love the ones under the Magnum track when it first comes out of the station before it reaches the lift. Walking under those while I was sweeping in August was totally awesome. Let's just say those areas were extra-clean lol.

I noticed that sometimes they would be running with water, some times with no water, and some times not at all. Why is this? (I'll say, on a warm day, the plain air with no water felt very good.)

I have a love-hate relationship with those fans. If someone in park op or planning and design is reading this take it from one who knows; the fans are enough to keep the guests in the queue cool. There is no need for the water at all. I have talked to guests, and employees and they feel the same way. The fans minus the water do a better job than the fans with the spray.

Actually, they didn't put in some kind of gas instead of water. They put a deadly virus in place of the chlorene tanks. It would make no sense to put just poison gas in because then the vaccine plot could have never taken place.
Dan is mostly correct, but...
When done properly, the misters can work really, really well. The trick is, the spray needs to be really fine so that the water will evaporate quickly. This evaporation will significantly reduce the air temperature. When this is working, you can walk under the misters and never get wet, and not get droplets all over your glasses.
I was in a park last season where a large number of misters were in use and they were all adjusted and working perfectly. What is so surprising about this story is that the park was Kentucky Kingdom, and the location was surrounding Swampwater Jack's, their big restaurant. Lots of cold-water mist, a couple of big fans running, but nothing was actually *wet*.
