I'm interested in Moonsault Scramble (Fugi-Q). 246 feet in 1983? I wonder why it closed (or if it ever worked in the first place).

From http://www.negative-g.com/NoLimits/No%20Limits%20Defunct%20Coasters.htm

The Moonsault Scramble was built in 1983 in the shadow of Japan's Mount Fuji at Fuji-Q Highlands. It was designed by Vekoma of the Netherlands for their Japanese distributor Meisho. Moonsault Scramble was built in the middle of the park's ice skating rink/go-kart track and was known for it's extremely high G forces. This shuttle coaster is similar to Vekoma's popular Boomerang coasters with its slow lift backwards out of the station before being released down through the station onto the loops. Instead of the typical boomerang layout Moonsault Scramble inverts four times as the train passed trough it's one of a kind pretzel loop.

Finding some images (really interesting layout) It would appear that the height is not track height, but the height of a couple support towers.

Yeah, which is why (I think, anyway) there is no drop height listed on RCDB.

Its just a shuttle coaster. It may be that it was never measured before being closed (or rcdb just hasn't collected the info). I'm wishing I'd had a chance to ride it before it closed.

For sure - its definitely one unique coaster. That pretzel is wild, especially for '83.

Is magnum still in the tallest 20-30 coasters?

Does any1 possibly have a chart of the 50 tallest coasters?

RCDB is your friend. :)

Here's the list sorted by height - just click any of the other headers to re-sort.

Magnum is still the 25th tallest coaster in the world and has the 27th longest drop.

I still lurk a bit. :)

I wish I could find the catalog Meisho had sent me back then. *** Edited 7/20/2006 7:23:01 AM UTC by Magnum "Candy" Man***

I rode Desperado in 1997 or 1998, and it still ranks in my top 5 steelies. Very nice ride. Reminded me of Magnum but with more character.

That's the first positive thing I've ever heard about Desperado!

Really? I'm surprised. I don't know if it's changed, but when I rode it it was very smooth, about like Magnum, and I loved the layout and the fly-throughs through the casino. I would love to get back on that one again.

I rode Desperado the 1st year and hated it! Yes it was smooth. But it was really slow!
