Winter Chill Out 2015

Well, in that case, Cedar Point missed an excellent employee recruitment marketing initiative. "Come work at Cedar Point where the housing is endorsed by Bosnians."

That housing is bad, period. My wife and I both worked there in the 80s (her) and early to mid 90s. She can tell you stories of parents who carried their kids' belongings into the dorms only to turn around, pack it back up in the car, and drive home. I had employees process in at Personnel but never show up. When I finally tracked them down they told me they had changed their minds. Sometimes they admitted it was because of their dorm assignment.

I had some back apartments while in college. Nothing as bad as Cedars dorms. Not even close. Now, Kinzel would tell you it didn't matter because the employees didn't spend much time in the dorms anyway. Yeah, classy answer to deplorable conditions.

One other thing I forgot to mention. In the 1045 presentation Jason McClure was asked about the status of midnight syndicate and he said that they are "currently talking to them" . I know that they currently don't have any venue at CP that would work but it would sure be nice if they had some presence for Halloweekends. It was our favorite thing at Halloweekends lasy year.

Did anyone ask about an update to their web site? I recall Tony mentioning that it was something they're aware needs fixed, but I haven't heard anything since.

I hope Midnight Syndicate is able to come back. Maybe they'll be in Jack Aldrich. Does anything go on at Oceana during Hallooweekends? It's possible they could go in there. I'm pretty sure they'll be back since it was a big hit.

I do agree about the website needing updated. It's terrible when your using it on a phone. Mobile sites are going the way of the dinosaur. Most are built with responsive designs today. I don't even offer mobile sites to clients anymore, I automatically build them responsively.

^^Someone did ask about the mobile app and Jason M said he's well aware of it and working on it. So perhaps the website is right there next to it on his priority list.

I don't remember hearing that. I know we were in the same group, it was most likely after I went through to see the Rougarou train.

Despite what everyone says about Cedars, I've lived there for the last two seasons and haven't hated it at all. Sure the building is old and you have to bring your own AC unit, but for the most part it's great. It takes me five minutes to walk to work, and I don't have to deal with driving or the bus system. I can walk into the park and ride rides on my day off, and it's not hard to walk to my car to go get groceries.

I actually really hate commons because of how many people are there. I always feel really overwhelmed and unsafe, Cedars is just full of internationals and smells like Ramen.

I don't work at Cedar Point to live in housing, I work at Cedar Point becasue I love it and it's a sweet summer gig. If you treat it more like a summer camp and less like a five star hotel, Cedars is the bomb.

Or you could treat it as it is, a job, and ask for real housing.

Including the history part of it. It's been wrong for about a decade now. It's older parts (especially the 1960's & 1970's) are full of misinformation and wrong dates. It's unfortunate for a park with such a rich history. I've emailed them in the past about it with no results. Maybe it'll be fixed soon. Oh well.......

History? There's a history section on the CP website? Where do they hide it?

If you click on "Media Center" at the bottom of the page, on the left side, 3rd link down is park history

Taking this thread in a different direction...

CP says all proceeds from WCO are donated to GKTW. Does this mean money left after covering costs, or is the entire ticket price donated? What about hotel rooms? Are they included? It's a great cause either way, I'm just curious. I remember when I worked for Outback Steakhouse we had a nationwide night where every dime every store took in was donated to Red Cross and relief efforts shortly after 9/11. Not profits, every dime. Several servers in my store (myself included) donated our tips as well.

Assuming this happens again in 2016 would PointBuzz/CoasterBuzz be interested in all trying to get on the same tour? Maybe they could coordinate an early sale for a certain time? I think it would be neat to meet as many people on this board as possible... Of course they could offer different times for GOCC, etc.

What did tickets cost for this event? They donated $27,000... Trying to get a ballpark of attendance (would also need an answer as to "proceeds").

Again this event is for an amazing cause and I can't say enough about CP for putting it on. Just another reason CP is my favorite place... I couldn't make it to WCO but made a donation to GKTW instead.

Every bit of ticket sales was donated. The lunch, souvenirs, etc. all came out of the parks pocket. Tour guides and other employees volunteered.

I just did the math and they sold 600 tickets to get $27,000, meaning 150 per group.

And that's why it was awesome. The park picked up the tab for lunch, and a lot of people donated their weekend time. GKTW got a big fat check.

So that is one reason I went out of my way to thank everyone I saw during the event. Another great success.

That's awesome. Kudos, CP!

Has anyone heard any more about the tickets we received at the Winter Chill Out for a drawing to go to the media day? I think Tony said 100 tickets would be drawn and each ticket holder could bring a guest. Any one remember this? Thanks.
