13 Things to Find...

SANDUSKY, Ohio, 2006 – Friday the 13th just got a little scarier.

On Friday, Oct. 13, aka Friday the 13th, Cedar Point will hold a HalloWeekends’ scavenger hunt that will require participants to scour the park to find 13 desired items. The prizes are to scream for.

To participate, guests must visit Cedar Point’s official website, cedarpoint.com, to download and print a scavenger guide. On the guide are 13 photos of things found inside Cedar Point’s ghostly gates. Some of the things will be easy to find; some will not. Guests will use the scavenger guide to record the location where they found the item. Once all 13 items are found and the locations are written down, guests will drop off their completed scavenger guide at the Guest Services Booth, located at the front of the park. All items on the scavenger guide can be seen from public areas of the midways.

One grand prize winner will be randomly chosen from all the correct scavenger guides. The winner will receive four tickets to Cedar Point for the 2007 season and four invitations to the Media Preview of Maverick, Cedar Point’s 17th roller coaster, that will be held in May 2007. The Media Preview will be an invitation-only event that will allow special guests and members of the media to be the first riders on Maverick. Only one entry per person and per household will be permitted. The scavenger hunt will only be held on Oct. 13. All scavenger guides must be dropped off at the Guest Services Booth by 11:59 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 13, 2006.

Download and print your Scavenger Guide here. (Acrobat Reader 5.0 or higher required.) For more information on this contest and HalloWeekends, guests can call 419.627.2350.

On a side note, is it sad that I know where every single one of those is without even looking around the park?

...and Doug,

Yes, that's gross, lol. I wish I could get to the PO!NT more than just a couple times a year.

I know where at least three of the 13 are, and I haven't been to Halloweekends yet this year. I hope my plans for going to the park on Friday don't get messed up.

Three things you need to fix anything in the universe: duct tape, WD-40, and a hammer. Duct tape if it moves and it shouldn't, WD-40 if it doesn't move and should, and the hammer as the last resort.

I wonder if you must turn it in in person, or if one can mail it in, and as long as it makes it there by Friday...? :)

EDIT: I just read the blog post on it, they must be handed in in person... :(

I am also in the same boat as DBCP and know where everything on that sheet is. If I could only use that skill to remember all the formulas for my classes.

I'm positive about 6 and have a good idea about 3. But there is no way I'll be able to get to the park friday so it deosn't matter.

Well, I found all 13 and it wasn't too terribly hard. A few of them were pretty difficult, though. As of 11:00, 170 entries had been turned in, and I'd say another 50 probably came before closing.

The story of the night was about the skull found on the left side, fifth down from the top. I approached about ten people also looking, and every single one of them had answered that the masks were located on the balcony above the main arcade. However, even though many of the same skull appear at that location, the picture shows the skull located outside the park near Guest Services. You can tell the difference because of the thin iron bars found in the background of the picture.

In the blog entry and on the printable hunt form, the instructions say that all items are found within the park's gates. This, however, is just outside them. I am glad a park employee gave me a huge hint about the correct location, or else I never would have gotten it since I entered through the Magnum gate. I suspect that a ton of people will be knocked out because of this mistake. All in all, a weird night at CP. Having Raptor and maXair both closed really screws up the atmosphere!

i know three? but wasn't there :( :( :(

Aren't Raptor and maXair supposed to be open on Friday Fright Nights? Were there not enough employees again?

Lettuce, I hate to burst your bubble, but I'm pretty sure the skeleton you are referring to was on the front of the Jeep in front of the Wildcat. I also saw the skeletons on top of the arcade and also thought that some people would put that as the location. After talking with some people last night we noticed that the pictures were in order if you made 1 lap around the park starting at the front gate. The one that had a lot of people stumped that I talked to was the first picture. What did you put down for that?

that first picture was of the enterance sign by pharo's tomb. the skeleton you are refering to was located near the fright zone enterance by millennium, off to the side by the skeleton singers.

That was the next skeleton pictured hanging from the lamp post. The larger skeleton head is the one in front of the wildcat on the Jeep.

If you are talking about the guy with the red Ohio State sweatshirt in guest services who helped a lot of people, I am not an employee. I should be, as many hours I am there, but I was visiting Nancy in Guest Services.

The first picture on the left was at the entrance to Pharoah's Secret. I actually think you're right about the skull being on the Jeep by Wildcat. That definitely will knock out a lot of people then, since I didn't see one person with that answer.

1eyedjack, it was an employee of Cedar Point who told us the skull was located outside the park by the gates. I guess they were wrong!

RacefortheSky, Raptor and maXair were down early in the day because of wind. Raptor's crew went to Mantis, and Raptor never reopened. maXair opened around 10:30.

I believe that skeleton head was located above the main arcade enterance off of the main midway. there were several there.

Nope, the large skull with the "cape" was indeed on the jeep out front of Wildcat. You can see that there are iron bars on a white backdrop, not a dark gray/black drape. I'm sure having all of those skulls that were very similar, if not exact, confused a lot of people. The item that really threw my mom, another couple, and myself, was the Elvis skull. I was insisting that it was the one in the Dead Rock cemetery, but my mom and the other guy we were looking with both said it was another Elvis skull somewhere else in the park. I never saw another Elvis though.

The teeth were also a problem for me. Thankfully, the couple my mom and I were with were pretty sure they were on the pumpkins hanging beside Park Plaza.

Yeah, honestly I thought the contest was a bit too hard. I ended up missing only one, but it took me and my girlfriend over 3 hours to find everything, and I knew at least 6 of them before I got there. Now, clearly I chose to participate in the contest and I don't care that I spent half my time there doing that. However, I think it should have been a little easier since I think a lot of people got started on it, found a few easy ones, and then spent a very frustrating five more hours in the park searching for answers because they wanted to finish what they'd started. Perhaps they should have given you one entry per correct answer, so people would have felt good about turning in a half completed sheet and could enjoy more time in the park.
