2008 Getaway Guide - Interesting Find

I just got the new Getaway Guide, and noticed something very interesting:

Multiple photos with riders having their hands in the air. If I recall correctly, brochures and guides from the recent past all seemed to show riders holding on.

I wonder what brought about this change.

I noticed that too - I wonder if it is an oops or if they are relaxing their standards.

Probably those pics were not planned and were actually taken with real GP riders on them. Other pictures have people Cedar Point wants and they are all made to have there hands down.

Maybe they just got cheap and shot the pictures without telling the riders they'd be photographed or to hold on? Hmm... Where's mine, anyway?

If you don't have yours by opening day, I suggest doing what I did last year. Last year I didn't get mine by opening day, so I went to Marketing and let them know. Technically you aren't supposed to get the guides at the park if I recall correctly, but if you gave them plenty of time to send you one and you didn't get it, they may be nice enough to give one to you there. They were nice to me last year, and I think I eventually did get one in the mail, leaving me with two in the end.

I seem to recall reading somewhere in recent months that the policy regarding rider's hands in photos had changed. I can't remember where though.

I still havent recieved my getaway guide. Its strange because it seems like in years past I have always gotten it in April.

I had a very frustrating call to Cedar Point on Monday. I was concerned that my Getaway Guide hadn't arrived, and my reservation at the Breakers is Sunday-Thursday. So I called and got a woman at information who couldn't locate me in the system (after spelling my name for her 5 times,) wasn't familiar with the guide, couldn't tell me if one was sent, did tell me that no, they would not hold one for me to pick up, and yes she would hand address one to my house but couldn't, of course, guarantee it's arrival.

I couldn't understand any of this. I stay on property at least 3 times a year and have done so for the last ten years. When I made my reservation this time my information popped right up for her, so why not now? My concern, naturally, is potentially missing out on 30$ a night savings, but by the time I was done talking to them I was ready to kill myself.

The happy ending to this is that a gal that works in the office down the hall from me knows that I'm a Fan and happened to mention that she had recieved "a coupon booklet thingy from Cedar Point!" I asked if she was planning on using it and she said no, she hadn't requested one, she had taken her son there years ago, she had never stayed there and wasn't planning to. So she'll bring it to me tomorrow.

But jeez. So Sandi Harris gets one no problem and I (best Cedar Point customer ever, mind you, not to mention the world's nicest guy) can't buy one! Go figure.

I finally got mine yesterday. Looks pretty cool, but I agree, some of the coupons have been better.

Directly copied from the CP website: "Our initial 2008 mailing is scheduled to go out on or about May 1,2008. You can expect to receive your information around mid-May."
I haven't received mine yet, so I am hoping I will by next week.

Why so late this year?

Are we going to have to hear about this all summer?

For those of you who have received Getaway Guides, are there any coupons that offer discounts on the purchase of season and/or Platinum Passes? I remember last year's Guide had those coupons and I am curious as to if that has continued for this year. With the Platinum Pass costing less than the Maxx Plus Pass of 2007, I feel that those coupons will be gone. Any response would be appreciated. Thanks.

There aren't any coupons for season passes. Most of the coupons are for food (Midway Market, Game Day Grille, & Donut Time), accomodations, games, challenge park attractions, and tickets (Funday, Starlight, & Halloweekends). The other change I noticed was that the buy one get one coupon for Starlight is gone. The Starlight coupons are all $5 off. I have already seen the Getaway Guides on Ebay.
