A Raptor Possibility...

I just got back from IOA in Orlando. I rode Dueling Dragons and it was GREAT. It was actually a lot shorter than I thought, and it didn't have near as many inversions as Raptor, but it did have something that made it absolutely worth long lines.

The wall climb. I don't know if all of you out there have heard of it, but it is basically a near miss with a wall right before you pull up for a cobra roll.

Now, couldn't CP easily do this with a large wood fence or some big trees (nothing to make it too themey). It really would add a great twist on the best inverted in the world.

I don't think it'd be worth their time. I've been to IOA a few times in the past couple of months and am quite familiar with Dueling Dragons. The wall effect is all but lost on anyone not in the front car. I don't think it'd be worth the effort to add a hint of excitement to the 4 people in the front of the train each ride. Plus with Raptor being relatively close to the bay, it'd be an eyesore blocking an otherwise great view/area of the park.
I went to IOA last summer and rode Dueling Dragons and I too liked the wall effect. However, I believe that although that would be a neat effect to add to the Raptor I think it would block the view over the bay and would not be beneficial. I do think that CP should consider this effect for some ride sometime in the future!!!

Actualy, with the way that Raptors cobra roll is situated, it would not be that much of an eyesore. Especially if they use some type of tree grouping instead.

that is what I thought monster when going into the cobra roll the cars are facing oh that merry go round and mantis and iron dragon and corkscrew. they are not looking at the bay.

Well maybe trees would be ok, but half of the thrill of the Ice Dragon is that it looks like you're going to slam a stone wall...not some nice soft trees. Any sort of wall there would definitely be classified as "eyesore" in my book. Regardless of the positioning of the Cobra Roll, it would still "fill in" an otherwise open feeling area.

It does seem like you're VERY close to the wall on Ice Dragon but have you ever checked it out from the queue? There's plenty of room there. I found two pics showing the distance. Yes it's close but not nearly as close as it seems when you're on the train speeding toward it.

I think an indoor inverted coaster would be cool.
Richie...

You say the Dragons didn't have near as many inversions as Raptor...well, last check, Raptor has six inversions, and each Dragon has five. That's pretty close if you ask me. :)

And to keep this on topic, yes, that effect on Ice Dragon is really cool, and I wish Raptor had something like that.
Perhaps, He didn't think it had as many inversion because it is soooo much faster than Raptor is. That was certainly my impression. Both sides of Dueling Dragons pull so much more speed than Raptor does (Fire is Fastest) plus the close calls kind of pull your attention away from counting inversions. I highly recommend these rides though as they are a totally different experience than Raptor is.

Woops! I guess it really doesn't seem like that many since there is so many other things going on! (Like CWD said) Actually Raptor is faster than ice, but not as fast as fire.

I don't know. It just seems that it would do more for Raptor than to take anything away from it.

I dont see Dragons making the #2 steel roller coaster on the Earth. Lets face it people like Raptor and I dont think a wall is that important to a coaster. The best part on Dragons is the part were you almost hit the other train in the loop.
