A ride that CP doesn't have & you wish it would...

With it being their 150th anniversary, if it's not a record breaker, it will be 2 coasters. I don't believe it will be just a single coaster like Mystic Timbers. With even better technology than 12 years ago, the ONLY wooden coaster I would want over 200 feet would be an Intamin pre-fab. While a hybrid like The Voyage could go over 200 feet, I just don't think the structure is very nice looking. Not that I would say no to a hyper Gravity Group coaster, but El Toro is much nicer to look at. If they did build a hyper wood coaster, they could still put in a kiddie coaster across from Wicked Twister if they want to and hit the 20 coaster mark.

EDIT: Though an RMC hyper wood coaster would be awesome, too.

Why does the 150th necessitate either a record-breaking coaster, or failing that, two coasters?!? This is where I once again state my amusement at how flippantly others spend CF's money. :-)

Why can't a 150th celebration include, say, a modest GCI (perhaps named "Switchback Railway" as a nod to their history), along with a number of non-coaster things? I mean, the park didn't become known as "Roller Coaster Capital of the World" until it was, what, 130 years old? Historically-speaking, it's been an "amusement park" for far longer than its been the "Coaster Capital."

This is all speculation but I can't see them building their last 2 record breakers in meaningless years and not doing something big for such a huge anniversary year. I just think that whatever they do is going to be big. Honestly, with Steel Vengeance being such a huge addition, they don't really need a new coaster for another 5 years. I would prefer they beautify the park. Maybe create an International Street like at Kings Island with a huge pool with fountains. Tear up as much concrete as possible and put in brick pavers. The areas around GK, Valravn, SV and Windseeker look awesome. Other places still have mismatched concrete. When they had the webcam pointed down at Celebration Plaza, yesterday, it really showed off how crappy that area looks.

I just don't see them doing that. I see them building something big.

What Cedar Point needs is a GCI family coaster where Shoot the Rapids used to be and a couple of flats the family can ride.

I am one of those who doesn't believe the Intamin meeting was just about some anniversary book.

From the Cedar Point blog... "Representatives from Intamin made the rounds and stopped to see our leadership team to personally deliver the books and to meet - I don't know what was said in the meeting, and Jason's not talking."

So, who knows. Could be something...could be nothing.

At 11 years, El Toro supposedly had had no re-tracking done. Not sure how the lift is, but with a 3 train operation at Cedar Point, a chain lift would suffice. I may be wrong, but I don't recall any Intamin coaster trains bumping into each other on an opening day? Middle of June and still only 2 trains running on Steel Vengeance....I guess Cedar Fair needs to avoid RMC in the future.

RMC has had their fair share of issues, too. Lightning Rod. New Texas Giant does come to mind for some reason.

The accident on NTG was a failure of the train design, which was a Gerstlauer product. Intamin designs their own trains, and older versions have ejected people.

So, try again. :-)

I'm sure something big will happen at CP for the 150 year celebration and it would really amuse me after all this coaster speculation if whatever is developed and built is not a coaster. After all for the 100 year anniversary the million dollar midway opened with flat rides, the Hofbrau food pavilion opened and they gave away medallions. While it may be a coaster (won't be an Intamin prefab), I'm hoping for an extravagant dark ride or a very large family flume ride.

And if I'm not mistaken, the "125 Summers" in 1995 was just the laser light show in Celebration Plaza and a new logo. Sandwiched between Raptor in '94 and Mantis in '96. I don't know that 150 needs to be anything more than a season-long series of special events and festivities. Maybe turn the Coliseum into a giant pink birthday cake. ;)

Three train operation on SV for 150th, mystery solved.

It took them 1.5 years to build it so far, so 2020 might not be too far off.
