Ad campaigns

Well, with the "dawn of the millennium" only 14 days away, I am surprised that CP has not extended their TV ads (at least) to the Pittsburgh market! I have been noticing that SFO commercials has been on the TV quite a bit here in the burgh, but not a peep from CP or MF!!

Anyone else from the Pittsburgh area seen anything yet?

I think they'll wait until the SFO nonsense hype has died down a bit, not to mention until they have actual POV instead of video from another ride in another park. coughSFOcough

Yeah Jeff, I thought about why wouldnt SFO wait untill they could actually have a POV from the new coasters before they started the ads.?

Six Flags infamous' advertising campaigns. Use POVs and footage from another Six Flags park on a completely different ride and try to fool the GP. It's great.

I started a topic just like this awhile back. So now theres 14 days left and still not a word from Cedar Point about this fantastic ride that is supposedly to have this great advertising campaign. Are they on strike or something? geez I am seriously disappointed that they are not doing anything. I mean even if they would put that little kid on the sled going down the hill it would be good. Then they could check out our newest attraction Millenium Force, the worlds tallest roller coaster. Opening May 13. I just dont understand why the delay!
It might be my imagination, but SFO has already been hitting Columbus TV harder in the last couple of weeks than it used to do all summer. I would assume they would try hard in Cleveland but it appears they are really going to push. *** This post was edited by Tim on 4/28/2000. ***
Did anyone check out the segment they did on FOX 8???? I think it was either yesterday or the day before. It wasn't much but anything is better than nothing right?

Will May 6th ever arrive?????

MF TV commercials are coming. Not for a few weeks yet, but I promise, they're coming. The future is riding on the damn thing, there better be commercials. ;)

As I've said before... MF already has strong brand recognition in certain markets. Quite frankly, one ride will speak to people in a way that no cheeseball ad of rides from another park will.

We don't get many Cedar Point commericals here (mostly PKI), but I've heard a lot of people talking about MF. A couple of nights ago an Indianapolis station did a story on the Ohio "coaster wars" showing SOB and MF. 90% of the information, and all of the video was about Cedar Point!
The web advertisement of MF alone was profound enough to receive mention of it in the annual report this year by Kinzel. This combined with the upconming attention catching TV spots that also include the web address, and BAM: you have an instant feeding frenzy of people that didn't happen to hear about the Force previously. Then, of course, you have the all important word of mouth that this thing will generate right after park opening. For God's sake, all of this exposure becomes a big feedback device that keeps building on itself like a snowball rolling down a mountain. That, my friends, is total saturation.

Re my take on the SFO commerical:--talk about a Typical, Gimmicky, Hollywood soap opera like ballad. It tried to make you feel guilty of forgetting about a best friend. The music tries desperately to entice a tear of sorrow from your eye that you aren't there having a good time right at this minute. This is exactly what the commercial was intended to do; and to be frank, I'd have to say it will succeed pretty well. Hecks, it only stopped my entire household in their tracks staring at the boob tube for a seemingly endless thirty seconds.

A few weeks, a tank of gas, and a car load of friends away from opening day in Pittsburgh.
I hate that song. I hate it I hate it I hate it. The Six Flags song never fails to make me want to take out some random weapon from Quake III and go on a killing rampage. We hear it up here in Boston because of Six Flags New England.

And:

I hate that song.

I went to a movie, Rules of Engagement, tonight at the Lennox AMC Theater. It is a 24 screen movie theater right across route 315 from Ohio State. Before the move previews they had a commercial for MF. It surprised me, I did not think I would see an MF commercial before a movie, especially here in Columbus. But it just shows that they are advertising MF, even here in Columbus where they will have tough competition from SOB.
Why does everyone want advertising? Less advertising means less crowds and a better day at Cedar Point for us. I accually hope they never advertise here in Pittsburgh, even though a lot of people already know about Millennium Force.

"Any day, is a great day, to ride a rollercoaster!"
Once again, the Millennium Force ad was up yesterday behind home plate in the 5th inning of the Tribe game at the Jake.
Yea good point Brian I never thaught of it like that. I guess its good in some ways, but bad in others. If they get more people maybe they will expand the park so it wont seem to crowded. Well anyway back to the topic, does anyone know if the commercial will be like the short video on the Official Site?

Well Seven, I live in thePittsbugh area too, and haven't seen or heard squat about MF. The only times it has been mentioned was in the news reports about the Steel Phantom being torn down

13 days until The Force

What does revenue have to do with Millennium Force? They'll make their budget or they wouldn't have built the thing in the first place.

The biggest push happens in Cleveland, Detroit, Columbus, Toledo and Ft. Wayne, roughly in that order. Other areas that get less attention include Pittsburgh, Chicago, Erie, Cinci and Buffalo.

They planted the seed almost ten months ago. It's out there. It's what people are talking about.

As long as they have the damn thing open on the first weekend (-cough-SOB-cough-), I'll be pleased. (And even if it's not open, at least I didn't have to drive 400 miles round trip to find a closed ride -cough-SOB-cough-.)

I think that the point above (no pun intended) was referring to a lack of revenue effecting future attractions, not Millennium Force itself. Although, I completely agree that the park will do very well this year, and we will see more major attractions to come.

...and enjoy the rest of your day at Cedar Point, The Am-aaaa-zement park!
