Attention train nuts: They ran the "**** *******" on Sunday!

As I approached Mean Streak, the train was sitting in the Frontiertown station. Something just didn't look right, so I walked up to the fence for a closer look. Since when is the boiler on a CP& LE locomotive teal? And furthermore, why is the cabin painted flat black, with no name?

So the Engineer told me. This was the day they were running the **** *******, the engine they swapped with Disneyland for the Maud L. I wasn't even aware that it was operational!

(Why "**** *******"? Because Cedar Point hasn't named that engine yet, and Maud got its old name.)

The Train with no name has been running most of the season. I rode it on the Sunday after 4th of July. Ironically, I was there last night and did take pictures of it. But, they're on my camera at home. I'll try an upload them later.

Anyway, it is my understanding that this train was originally Disney's. Disney (for what ever reason) couldn't use the train. So, years ago, Cedar Point sent Jennie K to Disney and at some point they sent us the train with no name. The park has apparently had it for at least a few years. I wish I had more info for you. But, I don't.

I thought I had a thread on this a while ago, but I couldn't find anything.

I noticed that as well. I don't pay attention to a lot of detail on the trains, but the teal on the boiler really stuck out. I simply assumed they had repainted it in the off-season.

It wasn't Jennie K., it was Maud L. that got swapped for the Ward Kimball. Maud is now Ward, and Ward is now .

And I didn't get pictures because my camera is sitting on my desk with its hard drive hanging out. Or I would have. Anybody know the right way to partition a hard drive for a Sony HDR-XR500V?

Every time I have been to the park this season (except yesterday) they have been running Myron and/or Judy.

On a related note for steam fans, the non-operating tractors have been moved out onto the Frontier Trail. I noticed that both have the same problem (aside from being generally inoperable): the steering chains are broken, so they are both incapable of turning left.

So just the opposite of Nascar?

Zoolander edition tractors! Cool!

I noticed the no-name train yesterday as well, while getting in line for MF in the morning.

Anyone else filling in the title with curse words at first? I was thinking, "That one will be closed quickly." Then, I clicked and the poster was RideMan. Shock, then ohhh.

Let's Get Weird.

I noticed a distinct smell from the train yesterday, that isn't normal when the those trains go by. Does that Engine use different coal, wood, is it still a steam locomotive. The smoke was very brown, and the smell was sort of a smoke bomb fireworks smell, Or did I dream it.

GATEKEEPER-I came, I rode, I was mildly disappointed; until a second ride (rear left) put GateKeeper back on the...it's a nice ride list.

Lots of pictures of the locomotive in question here. Even one with brownish smoke. Not sure whose pics these are, or if they are a member here as well.

Those pics are mine! They are actually from last year. There is also a video of it on youtube from last year. I believe this is only the second time this year that the Davenport has ran though the last time it ran for a couple of days due boiler washes of the other engines. Something didn't seem right to me when I got there at 11 a.m. standing in the station for Iron Dragon, smoke just was everywhere and it smelled like burning oil or something. It was ran empty for a few cycles I think and then it went back to normal, but the smoke was all over the place near the Iron Dragon.

Maybe that's why Disney got rid of it... ;)

I kinda figured someone here knew whose pics those were or was the owner of the pics.

I'm a little confused by the last sentence in the article....Is it saying that Elizabeth (the diesel converted 0-4-0) is now at Knotts? I had always wondered what happened to Opryland's locomotive.

Nick

This engine went off the grid for a long time and when it showed up at CP, people began to think it was Elizabeth which Im not sure where she is. I will have to check! Ladyjerrico if you were there at 11, I would still have been running the blower trying to build steam up since the park didn't open till noon, which explains the smoke if the wind is off the bay! The reason it smells different is that it used to be an oil burner and alot of residual oil could be in the firebox and tubes. But it does smell different than the others. Only the first round was ran empty like we always do first thing in the morning!

Doesn't the Disney locomotive use some type of oil rather than coal? That would explain the different color smoke.
