Big Dipper

Isnt this a great wooden roller coaster? Its such a great ride. And its placed right smack dab in the middle of the park. I do hope that Cedar Fair takes really good care of this old vintage roller coaster . Who else loves this coaster?

This was my 1st coaster and I grew up riding her. It's still as fun today many years later. :)

I think it's pretty painful myself. I'm not a simple "out n back" kind of guy - I need intensity in a roller coaster.

I actually like it a lot. It must have been fun in the 20's for sure.

It'll be sad to see it gone.

^^ Isn't The Voyage pretty much an "out n back" coaster?

I'll find out how I like it tomorrow afternoon ;)

I worked the Dipper WAY back in the day. It is still one of my favorite woodies. Nothing flashy about it but there is something about that coaster running right down the middle (or at least it WAS the middle) of the park.

I knew that ride inside and out. Good times.

I like how, in the days of old, they had the park entrance under the dipper where the midway runs now.

Well the thing is if they were to relocate Big Dipper, they might as well just build her with brand new wood. The wood that is holding her up now is very old.

I rode the Big Dipper last year and I have to say that this was the smoothest wooden coater I have ever rode. It's a GREAT ride. If it is moved, it should stay in Ohio IMHO.

Isn't Millennium Force and Out and Back coaster?

It should be illegal to be able to remove history with a damn condo!

Just in case you guys flunked your reading comprehension classes in the 2nd grade: ;)

I went ahead and highlighted the important parts of the statement I made.

Voyage is classified as "out -n- back", but it's intense as hell, and not very simple. Magnum is an out and back, but again there's some intensity and a few directional changes going on there.

Blue Streak is a great ride, but I'd much prefer a twister.

Even when I play with NoLimits, I never can make a straight out, straight back kind of ride, especially not with the high turnaround thing. I usually can respect them for that they are/were, but I'd much rather a little "violence".

I love any classic woodie, especially the Big Dipper. I would be extremely dissappointed to see this ride come down. It would be a neat to have it relocated to border CP's beach, like Wicked Twister does. Any old woodie by the beach is a perfect setting. I highly doubt it will be relocated though. If not, I hope they at least leave it SBNO.

I think I read something in the paper (Lake County News Herald I think) that some ACErs want to preserve the Big Dipper. Don't take my word for it, I only read it in the paper. If it's true, I hope they succeed. I love that ride, and it's one of the few John Miller designs remaining.

Ive ridden it before, and I think its a great coaster!

I never really liked the Big Dipper. Painful, IMO.

But I do hope it gets a new home, or is somehow preserved, just because it's historical.

It's called Millennium Force, not "Millenium" Force. Thanks.

The one time I went to SFWOA, (2001 I think) Big Dipper was the best ride I had all day. I agree that a ride like Big Dipper would fit in nicely by the Beach at CP.

I would be surprised if ACE didn't try and save this coaster.

The trick to riding Big Dipper is to grab a middle bench; front, back, center, it doesn't matter. As long as you're in the center seat of the car, you're off the wheels, and it delivers (delivered) a very nice ride.

You will never see the Big Dipper at CP. While I personally like the ride, it is far from being a marketable ride for CP. Besides, CP already has a out and back wood coaster, which is the Blue Streak. A ride that is better than Dipper in my opinion.
