B&M brown dive track spotted

After watching the pov on Baron 1898, I have a much better anticipation for the CP diver. Baron 1898 has more elements to it that make it appear thrilling and more like a full ride then the one trick pony divers that lift,stop,drop... Repeat, then end.

If the leaked memo is accurate with four inversions and record height, I feel that this could be an awesome addition to the park. The potential for the elements to make this thrilling and feel like more than a ride with a couple of drops is huge. After all, how thrilling would a 200' drop be when there's already Magnum, Millenium Force and Dragster to visually compare to.

If you get a chance watch the Baron pov. Also pay attention to the reaction of the onboard riders, as there is much more enthusiasm on Baron then Sheikra or Griffon. I feel both of those divers suffer from the one trick pony syndrome.

Out of curiousity how many of us have actually ridden a dive coaster? I keep seeing all these comments with opinions based off POV videos.

I've ridden 3, and I've enjoyed every single one. Including the original Oblivian which literally is just a drop and a turn into the station.

It's insane to me how many people are being critical of a ride that's not even announced yet.

This is nothing in terms of critical..See ParkFans..or even worse Disney fans..

Wolf,

I've been on Sheikra and Griffon and I did find them enjoyable, in the same way I find Pipe Scream or Gemini enjoyable.

I'm not being critical of the unannounced ride, I'm just hoping for an awesome addition to the park. Something that makes you wowed and want to ride it again, like CP has an awesome lineup of. It would be great to have another MF, Maverick, TTD, Raptor level ride and not a yawn inducing mediocre thrill level ride.

People are just unhappy that the park isn't turning out crazy unique and innovative coasters every year. Because everyone knows that Gatekeeper is a horrible coaster. (Sarcasm)

2018- Raptor

CP Top 5- 1)MF 2) Maverick 3) Gatekeeper 4) Top Thrill Dragster 5) Raptor

Dive coasters in general really do appeal to me but Oblivion does not. I'm not a fan of the lift, drop, break. If I wanted to go ride a drop tower I would go ride Power Tower. (And yes I am aware that PT is not a traditional drop tower but you understand what I'm saying)

^^^ I don't know how you find any hypercoaster "yawn-inducing" XS NightClub, but I don't think you're going to like the new ride very much as it was described in the SR if you find Sheikra and Griffon boring, even with the extra inversions and height.

Having been on both Sheikra and Griffon, "boring" is a word that would never come to mind.

Different strokes for different folks I suppose. Though it really won't matter whether or not we find it amazing as a collective. As long as the general public likes it, it's a hit.

Heavens no. I've only ridden Griffon on our most recent trip to Busch Gardens a couple years ago, and was pleasantly surprised with just how much I enjoyed it. It was thrilling, fun, and unique all rolled into one, and since riding it I've only wished that I didn't have to scoot on down to Virginia to ride a Dive Machine. I recall my wife mentioning, "Can you imagine if Cedar Point got one of these and did their typical "faster, taller, longer" treatment to the experience"?

Yes, yes I can. And there would be much rejoicing.

The ride experience itself aside, what BGW did with Griffon's environment is awe-inspiring; from the loop over the bridge (entrance) to the splash-down zone. I would hope that if this is the route CP is taking (insert grain of salt here) that a comparable ride exterior would be incorporated into the new area.

Just bring back Demon Drop, and save some cash.
Heck, slap the Mantis trains on it and make the first stand up diver. 😉

As I said, I find divers enjoyable like other tame coasters. That being said, I really like what they did with Baron 1898. And after seeing what they did with Baron, I'm actually excited to see what they can do with Valravyn to make it more thrilling than Power Tower on coaster track.

While Gatekeeper is a great coaster aesthetically and a very nice ride overall, it is not one of the 'wow' rides that I've ever had anyone ask me about or if I've been on it (I'm from Wisconsin so I meet a lot of people that haven't been to CP). It fits nice in CPs lineup as does Pipe Scream. I am just hoping for another amazing ride that really blows you away and is a defining coaster at the park.

It looks pretty common for Dive Coasters to go under a bridge so I do hope that comes to Cedar Point's version. Splash downs are nice, but definitely not needed. I would much rather see that money spent on the existing area.

Well, just to be picky, Griffon is the only dive coaster to go under a bridge. So it's not really that common. :)

But the majority do go through something after the drop. It'd be cool to see a bridge utilized with a new Marina entrance.

I wasn't doing much so I went on some Canada's wonderland website and most of them think that the track is coming to cedar point. Some think it's for "Ziz". I would really like seeing some gatekeeper like restraints on Valravn. Also, anyone know how to pronounce it? I have been saying it like Valraven

There are a few ways to go about it. I've been pronouncing it as "val-rah-vin" and some have been pronouncing it as " val-raven." But the true Danish pronunciation is different (obviously) and almost sounds like "val-rawn".

Efteling won the contest for best themed dive coaster ever. Game over.

I agree, but second place has to go to Oblivion that opened this year in Italy. It has some sort of alien research/findings theme that reminds me of Disaster Transport...

To be sure, the amount of thrill you get on a dive coaster depends on where you sit. My first ride on Griffon was taken in the very front row in an end seat. That experience was much better than later rides when I was more toward the middle. Off the track, to me, is better than over the track. The pause at the top is scarier, and flips and turns are much more forceful.

The riders have little control over where they sit. They line up at the gates, in that case ten across, and file in to fill the row in order. I lucked out that first time as the folks in front of me (for some dumb reason, maybe fear?) plopped down in middle seats and I was able to scoot past them to the last seat in the row. After that it was chance and over several rides I wound up in less desirable seats.

I'm of the opinion that the thrill factor for rides like wing riders and dive machines starts on the ground. There's little more impressive to by-standers than watching a wider-than-wide train dangle over the edge before dropping straight down. And lets use Gatekeeper as another example. Who among us didn't stand in awe when we first saw the trains perform that keyhole maneuver then flip back around for another pass? And that's one of the smartest things a ride designer or a park can do these days- give spectators something great to look at first. It draws people in and starts the thrills before they even get near the station.

So, if Cedar Point should install a dive coaster one day, and if rumored statistics are true, it will cause a new sensation the likes of which hasn't been seen in a while up there. And no one will care if a handful of enthusiasts call it lame, or tame, or forceless. The turnstiles will tell the story.

Ok come on now... Demon drop wasn't over 200 feet with multiple inversions and a holding break style drop where you face the ground. I technically can't argue with you over it's thrill as it's subjective, but you're not giving Dive Coasters NEARLY enough credit. Only Oblivion and Oblivion's Chinese mirror clone are Lift, Drop, station. The rest of the Dive Coasters that I've been on have been quite thrilling to me, more so than Magnum at least.

I think he was referring to a lift, drop, and brake. And I think it was also sarcasm.

I get that he wasn't being serious about bringing demon drop back, but he was saying that Dive Coasters are categorized as a "tame" coaster, and like I said, that is technically subjective but utterly false from my viewpoint.

Somebody made an amazing concept art for valravn that almost looks like the real deal. http://tinypic.com/r/t8p8ok/8

SV ruins all other rides.
