CCI closes its doors

If you haven't been to CoasterBuzz lately, CCI has officially called it quits according to the mainstream industry press. Those of you who were hoping a CCI would some day grace the Erie shore sadly won't see it happen.

Here's hoping the talent pool lands on their feet and perhaps starts their own company.

my second obsession

Or some other coaster website...

Anyway, do you realize that there are fewer and fewer American coasters now? All the good ones (and most, period) are from Europe now?

Why am I failing French?!?! :)

MAG: Phh... After about 10 at once I stop counting. So take that as it is.

Thank God for ST at MIA. This is a very sad day for everyone I am sure. CCI will go down in history as the BEST woodie manufacturer of the 20th century. This day really sucks.
Ok here is a question, and dumb one perhaps. Where will the parks goto to get custom parts like wheels etc for all the CCI coasters? Who is going to be the generic (perhaps not the right word) part supplier?

The trains are still mostly made by PTC, which I bet could live off of parts alone. They only sell a few trains a year, so hopefully that's not their core business. CP alone has five such trains.

That's right. Now I know why it was a dumb question. Boy am I disappointed, I wanted so bad to ride a CCI at CP.

I have yet to ride a CCI after hearing so much good things about them. Looks like I will have to travel to SFWOA or Lake Compounce to ride one.

What a shame.

I don't think CP would have gone with a CCI anyway. At CoasterMania the topic of a wood coaster came up, and CP said they are looking at the new Intamin wood coaster technology with milled track. Intamin's technology is supposed to drastically reduce wood coaster maintenance.

Unless you start first thing in the morning.

GCI (Great Coasters International) makes some good stuff too. I would love to see some type of deuling/racing woodie at CP similar to Lightning Racer at Hershey. Those trains are awesome!

This is truly a sad day. Although I haven't rode a CCI, I know they make amazing coasters. We are really seeing the death of the American coaster industry with CCI closing shop, and all of Arrow's financial problems. I guess my dream of being a world class coaster designer die a little more today.

Just because you can't justify charging $3 for a Pepsi doesn't mean you can't charge $3 for a Pepsi.

As many people around the CB & GTTP Community have said, I SOOOO need to ride a CCI now! I think I might even head over to SFWoA in a couple weeks :( to ride villian. This is a sad day in the coaster industry, and it's getting just like car companys, all the good coaster companys are foreign. But... we can't complain they are pretty good!

Here's to hoping CCI employees form their own company FCCIECC (Former Custom Coasters Intl. Employee Coaster Company) :)

This is a sad day in the coaster industry, and it's getting just like car companys, all the good coaster companys are foreign.

I remember a TV show about Cedar Point done by WEWS in Cleveland in the late 70s or early 80s. It was sort of like a poor man's version of the "World's Largest Amusement Park". When they got to the rides part they interviewed Jack Falfas in front of the Gemini. He was asked who they contract to design and build coasters. Jack said something like "all the great coasters are coming out of the U.S. They're designed here and built here". He was referring to companies like Arrow and PTC, of course. It's sad that in just a couple of decades the domestic coaster industry has just about fallen apart. I'm glad to have companies like Intamin and B&M, but I'd really like to see Arrow and some others make it big again.

And you have to wonder why that is. We still have Premier Rides, and now that they've got lap bars on their loopers, they are pretty amazing rides. By all accounts Arrow makes a nice smooth ride in X, but they won't be doing much of anything until their financial and legal problems are resolved. Morgan certainly has the potential, but they haven't done anything but hypers.

Hey, at least the two big steel designers (B&M and Intamin) are from a neutral company. That and the B&M track is fabricated right here in Ohio.

At least I have a CCI close to me (Rampage at Visionland). To bad Visionland is gonna close and I won't be able to ride it. I hope they sell it so I can ride it again.

I was never a big woodie fan until after riding Shivering Timbers at MIA. What a great ride.

I was truly hoping that Cedar Point would get a CCI coaster, even if just a mid-size one.

I guess that will never happen now.... :{ sniff

I never liked woodies until I rode a CCI woodie at Martins Fantasy Island in New York. Im glad I have a CCI about 5 minutes away from me and an admission price to the park of only 10 bucks.
I have had the privlage of riding 3 CCI's so far (Raven, Legend & Twisted Twins) IMO I think that the thing that makes CCI's so wonderful (besides good construction) was there ability to design coasters with almost perfect transitions between elements never a dull moment with their coasters.

It is a shame to see them close up shop.
