Cedar Point Games

I worked at CP in '02 and quickly learned to never play the basketball shooting game. If you stand directly under the hoop you'll see the shape of the rim is an oval, with barely enough room for the ball to fit through.

The basketballs annoy me too. Maybe a solution could be to give the winner the ball in a paper/plastic shopping bag, and explaining to them that it's against the rules to bounce/play with them in the park. It's unlikely to happen, but it would be one way to eliminate the annoying balls.

And then one day you find ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun

After the got ride of the park wide loose article policy last year, the restriction still remained on the basketballs.

NO BASKETBALLS in ride lines or platforms. The only way to take it with you was to put it in a bag (as the above poster said) which you could get for free from any shop. This was so they couldn't roll around into the tracks or anything.

I heard that the no loose article policy caused games sales to decrease. Then they decided that they should return to their old policy with a few exceptions. Magnum apparently had an incident in 2004 where a non empty 20 oz. bottle hit someone quite hard. I believe that was the inspiration for the early 2005 no loose article policy.

haah foe those who claim games are rigged or impossiabe are sore losers...i have work games and they are alllll possiable. even the ones i didnt think anybody could win...i have seen winners on

I once stunned the game operators at one of the basketball games by making 4 shots in a row. I won a big blue kangaroo thing, which I gave to my girlfriend at the time. So yeah, I can attest to the fact that the games are winnable. As for winning basketballs, I usually put mine in a locker right away.

Speaking of games... I wish they wouldn't have added that climbing game over by Gemini. It just clogs the midway.

The games outside are tough. The ones inside are easy for me to beat. or at least one is. I bought a DVD recorder last year with 19,500 tickets. It cost me $160. The phillips Recorder I recieved is selling at Curcuit City for $250. It was a bargain, and I had fun doing it. ya'll probably do not believe me.

I know that it will not happen, but I hope they get a big screen in the arcade this year. 100,000 tickets. You guys would see me in the arcade every saturday and sunday.

Did any of the games have cool prizes other than stuffed animals. I am tired of them

I believe you Mikey. I got a DVD player from Fascination a number of years ago for about 1/2 to 2/3 of what the mail order price was. Still use it today.

I think I know which game is easy for you to beat. I get mega tickets on the one game in the main arcade, I won't reveal it, but I bet it's the same one you are talking about.

I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.

Yeah. There is a lighthouse game where you have to light the different levels and you can win DVD's and other things. Plus last season, if you got a ring on the right bottle at the ring toss by gemini, you could win a X-box.

Imagine your favorite tv show. You've been through it all. The ups, the downs, the crazy coincidences and then bang! They tell you what it's all about. Would you be happy? Does it make sense? How come it all ended in a church? - Joker

During my three days in the park last summer I saw at least four people get beaned by out-of-control mini basketball winners dribbling the balls uncontrollably. I even saw one ball whack into the side of a baby stroller. Who are these people trying to impress while walking around the park, bouncing the ball, and taking fake jump shots? Seriously, it looks ridiculous and I think think they are annoying to most guests.

The mini-basketballs are a fine prize, but I think it would be for the best if they were out given deflated.

Those people that you are revering to are the guys that want to make the mountian dew street ball team. I will admit that I dribble the ball in the park but I when I do, I just drible in front of me. I don't run around the park with it. Try to show my moves. I just dribble to a locker and put it away.

Keep in mind that we have members who were born the same year Snake River Falls opened (which was also my first year working at Cedar Point). It doesn't take much to fall under the category of "old."
(sorry not sure on how to quote others yet:))

To date myself here I remember attending Cedar Point when the Corkscrew first opened in '76 and i was already 10 years old(now IM depressed:().
Hmm can also remember the Shoot the Rapids ride .

Anyway to get back on topic here.
Like everyone has said the games are part of the experience and I have been known to dump a few $$$$ on them(that bowling ball rolling game).
Also its fun taking your kids and watching them try their luck at winning a prize(again more $$$$).
There is more about Cedar Point then the coasters. Its the time to spend quality time with family and freinds and to take a break from the stresses of everyday life.To watch your little one ride their first coaster or maybe even their first ride ever.Watching them frown or pout when they dont win their prize(took after me on that one).
Everything Cedar Point has or does adds to the memories of everybody who attends and that is what makes it unique. Some think the games are a waste of money and some think they are not but I know one thing when Im there with the family you can bet you will find me there at least once a day trying to get that little stuffed toy for my kids.

i like the way you think...i love watchin lil kids play my game...i always try and give them an agvantage of course

Hey guys!

My name is Brian Richardson and I'm the author of a book called, "The Secrets of Amusement Park Games...Revealed! (Third Ed.)" Currently, it can be purchased exclusively on Amazon.com.

I'm thinking about making some brief 10 minute videos to distribute on how to win at Wacky Wire. (I'll be very honest with you guys. Some games I kinda have a knack for, like the BB Gun Red Star Shootout. Other games like Wacky Wire, I had to replicate in some way, shape or form at home so as to give solid tips to the general public. In the case of the Wacky Wire, I actually bought one used about 4 years ago -that's the ONLY way I could have mastered that game!)

I also placed a chapter of the book online for free for everybody to benefit! It's at:

(Please do not advertise products on PointBuzz without permission)

Please note, when it says click on the picture to the left, it's talking about the X. (My HTML skills need polishing :-D )

I hope to hear comments from you guys soon!

I wish they'd paint red lines on the midway around the games so that the obnoxious games staff could be limited as to who they are allowed to solicit. Anyone inside the red line may be screamed at, identified, cajoled, bribed, etc. Conversely, Anyone outside the red line should be permitted to walk through the midway in peace!

If I'm walking to Gemini at ten in the morning, there is nothing more frustrating than having to run the gauntlet of idiots screaming at me trying to get me to play a game and win a stuffed animal to tote around the rest of the day.

Well have any of you noticed that in the new three point contest game all of the basketballs that you shoot are very heavy, and some light?

Total Maverick rides for the 2007 season = 27

Top 5--- 1. Maverick- 2. Millennium 3. Magnum 4. TTD 5. Gemini

Cavs- 2007 Eastern Conference Champions!.-

Brian, I love your book! Good info and your writing style is enjoyable!

i've been one of those kids that bounce the balls around the park. i apologize to anyone who was annoyed/hit by an errant ball.

one of my favorite games is the pitching one where you guess how fast you throw. i've triumphed on that once, my two pitches were 51 and 69 mph. I guessed 51 for my third pitch and i was right! the operator sang out loud and everything. it was cool.

You know, it is their job to do that right? Coming from somebody that worked in games, trust me, its not that those people get up every morning and say "I wonder how many people i can really annoy today until i lose my voice..." They are just doing their job, all you have to do is ignore them. Dont look at them or let them know that your listening because then they will bug you more.

Im not tryin to start an agruement or anything, im just giving you a tip for next time :D
