Cedar Point's 2011 ride will target thrill seekers

A lot of S&S rides have problems. HyperSonic XLC a 15 million dollar fail and the ringracer which has yet to really "open". I think their best and most popular product is the Tower rides and as we all know CP already has that.

Huss did go bankrupt but a successor company Huss Park Attractions was created and sells the popular brands of Huss. I could maybe see CP interested in the Topple Tower or the Jump2 (which I think is at Canada's Wonderland and has a lot of issues)

How about a Disk'O or a giant swing ride like the one they have in Orlando?

Actually Flight of Fear aka Outer Limits, originally had Over the Shoulder Restraints. It operated with OTSR's from 1996 to 2000. In 2001 the OTSR's were removed and lap bars were installed.

Hmmmm...if both Sky Swatters are plagued with problems, then it'd be foolish for CP to install one, so scratch that. Unless S&S could prove to CP that they've come up with a solution...

It seems like it just has to be a giant flat ride of some sort though...and one that would look impressive at CP's entrance. I'd have to think they'd pay close attention to reliability too, as they know the damage that extensive downtime can cause.

So, what are some big, reliable flat rides that have been recently installed, are different from what we have, and that fit in well with Cedar Point's image of summer fun?

I'm not ruling out something completely new and brilliant, or a new type of drop ride either...

May I offer the suggestion of turning the area from the Demondrop to the shoreline into a classic boardwalk area. Adding a couple of small flats or a dark ride, with a cyclone woodie from the makers of the Voyage? Also to include timberliner trains.

Did I miss something somewhere? What evidence do we have, apart from the removal of Demon Drop, that the next new attraction will be located where Demon Drop was?

What if, for example, they were to tear down the Oceana Stadium and build the new ride there, possibly even displacing Ocean Motion to the Demon Drop site in the process? Or not...

none. But what reason would CF have to spend $$$ removing DD if they weren't planning on using that space for some other purpose--and I don't mean growing grass?

Praying that it is a B&M Dive Machine. The rides don't take up that much room, they are popular and have great capacity.

Either that or a GCI wooden coaster similar to Terminator or Prowler.

SeaWorld Parks has a North America exclusivity contract with the B&M dive coasters, according to a news article in Tampa when they did SheiKra. They did not say how many years it was for.

Having ridden SkeiKra a few times I can say that we aren't missing out on a whole lot. I enjoyed it, but I'm not super bummed to know that CP likely won't get one.

Please bring an adult, high thrill "crap your pants" oriented dark ride to CP in 2011. Thank you and good night. :)

Count me in as someone who thought the dive coasters were a huge snooze-fest. An Intamin Zac Spin in Demon Drop's old spot is my guess.

That's my guess as of now too, Ralph. Just walking by it yesterday you can't really picture a mega coaster going in. I would say a flat ride, but with all of the Intamins, and Dick's emphasis on focusing on the thrill seeker, I'm going with ZacSpin.

I'm still set on a wooden coaster that extends around to the beach or a dark ride like Busch Gardens. I can't see a crap zacspin coming to Cedar Point.

This ride could easily extend over a picnic pavillion into the parking lot too. I wouldn't rule out a coaster...

Dark ride. There, I voted.

If only. But what kind of dark ride would fit at Cedar Point? Something somewhat traditional with a haunted house theme? Or would a sports-themed interactive ride like the Reese's Xtreme Cup Challenge at Hersheypark be more in line with the overall vibe of the park?

If they do ever opt for a dark ride, it will be interesting to see what kind of style they'll go with. Perhaps working with Sally Corp. at Kings Island will mean a Boo Blasters at Cedar Point.

It would have to be a pretty extreme dark ride for it cater to "thrill seekers".

While Cedar Point would likely never build anything like it, but the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror could qualify as an "extreme" dark ride.

Tower of Terror would be an awesome replacement. But, I don't see it happening.

Jeff's guess of a Top Spin is probably more likely than anything anyone else has guessed. It has good capacity for a flat ride. (900pph) The other giant flat from Huss Cedar Point don't have is the Jump2. It's a very fun and disorienting ride. As far as I know the only one around is at Canada's Wonderland. I really enjoyed it. However, from what I hear it is another ride with it's fair share of downtime.

From S&S we have the Sky Swatter and El Loco. If you've been reading this thread a while, you've probably already seen my comments on the Sky Swatter. Fun and intense. But, also a ride that has only been installed once and has had lots of downtime. El Loco is their compact coaster. There is one at Indiana Beach (Steel Hawg) and another overseas. This is a very fun ride and seems to be popular. Other than the ride having an issue during construction, I don't think it has really had any problems since then. Though it does have a blocking point, they don't seem to run more than one car on the course at a time and that would put the throughput at about the same as the Intamin Ball Coaster.

Intamin, as many people have mentioned has the Zac Spin / Ball Coaster, which again would have a moderate capacity at best. Considering it's reliability, it's probably the lowest of everything I have mentioned so far. In terms of flats, Intamin has the Suspended Twin Hammer which appears to be more of a carnival ride. But, I think it would be considered a thrill ride. They also have the Surf Rider which is their compact half-pipe coaster. The larger one has a pretty good capacity of 1,100pph. I rode the one at the Mall of America and found it to be fun, but I wouldn't really put it in the category of thrill rides.

From Zamperla we have one of my personal favorites, Power Surge. Though it too has only a moderate capacity. They also have the Mega Disc'O, which seem to be a very popular ride. Though I personally could take it or leave it. Depending on how big or long of a model was built, this could actually require more space than Demon Drop's site offers.

All that being said, of the thrill rides that would fit in this space, have good capacity and reliability, a Top Spin seems to make sense. It's biggest downfall (if it could be considered a downfall) is that it's been around so long and are installed everywhere. In addition, the Top Spins (to me) seem to be less re-ridable of a ride for the GP. I think the other likely possibility would be a Mega Disc'O. I think this can be considered a thrill ride or a family ride depending on which model you put in.
