Coaster facelifts

We all know that the Gemini station got a facelift, but I wonder if other coasters will get a facelift as well.  Raptor got its new paintjob last winter. Others are due.  Mantis really needs a paintjob badly because it has faded to the point of disgust.  But the facelift I hope to see this year is Magnum.  It used to be cherry red when it was new, but it has faded badly.  Some argue that Magnum was touched up with the burnt orange paint in spots of rust, but i doubt CP would do that.  Magnum had been the best roller coaster for over a decade regardless of color, but a facelift would be nice.
Mantis is getting painted this off-season, and Magnum is a dark orange...
I remember the debates over what color Magnum was supposed to be, but will this pait job make it the color it originally was?

CP_bound, when was you first visit to CP?  It must have been in the early to mid-90's.  The diehards that have been riding Magnum since day one know it was red.  You may be saying it is dark orange now, but "no duh!"  The point is that Magnum should be painted to the original color.

It was candy apple red not fire engine red not burnt orange.  In 89 I begged and begged my brothetr not to make me go on it, I was only 9 and I remember it was Candy Apple red, look at eth old pics, it was candy apple red

NOT ORANGE!!!!!!!!!!

I think Disaster Transport could use a major Facelift.  It might even fall into the category of renewal/renovation.  It seems like the past couple of years it has been Blackout Transport....  It's a good thing Mantis is getting painted.
I hate to burst your bubble guys. But I have been a Magnum fan since the day it opened. It was orange then as well, just not as faded! LOL. I have plenty of pics from 1st year that show it. Just wish they were on my site. They are still in my photo album. Plan on posting them this winter.

Orange? Red? Photos won't help because of the impossibility of matching color with a color photo. Let's just say it was Magnum-colored. Hey, that's an idea for the first paint in a new line of colors...

I think we are going to argue until death about the color of Magnum, but the diehard fans know it was originally red.  Just take my word and Magnum Force's word because we know what we're talking about.

Anyway, enough of that bickering.  The point of this topic was to discuss facelifts, not to bicker over Magnum's color.  It is great to hear that Mantis is getting repainted.

Mean Streak has always been under some type of adjustment since it was altered from original design.  The first hill was completely reconstructed to take out some of the bottom steepness.  The brakes on the drop were added.  Steel beams were put in place of wooden beams in spots.  It was retracked in some spots over the past few years.  But I think it is due for a MAJOR facelift.  I hope CP brings CCI in to bring the coaster back to a great coaster.  It has been falling in the ranks because it has been too rough for most riders.

Uh, Jerry is a Magnum die hard! He rode it 600 (sometihng like that) some times in 1989.

I rode it twice in 1989 :).

Looking at the Raptor cam, the lift hill on Mantis looks grey, rather than bright yellow like ut usually is.  Have they started painting it?

I think it's just the sun and the angle.

Painting of a whole coaster probably won't take place till next spring like they did on Raptor. I know they just painted the station on Gemini but there's a slight difference between a building and 3900 feet of B&M track.

Thank you Jerry!   If you happen to be an employee and are under the Magnum station, the track down there (when it's clean) is close to the original color probably as it doesn't get much sun - DARK ORANGE.

And anyone who says Jerry isn't a diehard Magnum rider is crazy.  I watched him ride 83 times on a hot day this summer with no re-rides.  He walked around every time.

I'm not to sure of the magnums original color. but i did find a picture to ponder.  Is it red or orange.  I think the picture looks red.  If not red then a really really dark orange.
Why can't we all just say it's dark reddish-orange.. and just leave it be already!

What do you think I meant? It's not like I would say that the inside of Mantis' ties are pink!

Here's a little something to think about...Why on earth would Cedar Point build to coasters two years apart from each other that were the same color? (Iron Dragon)

Between that, and my fellow regulars on GTTP, I rest my case.

So in 2003, Magnum will be colored it's original color...dark ORANGE.

All i want to say is that depending on the length of the developing process, that could be any range of red/orange.

(im evil, i know.)
