Coastermania 2009

My wife and I will be there for our 8th CoasterMania, staying at the Breakers. No matter what the economy is like, we always save up for this weekend. At least gas is $2/gal cheaper this year than last.

How can you doubt any of those being on the ert list is beyond me.

My own personal explanation as to why I am worried/nervous is that one never knows what the combination of things "weird" people want, and what people trying to screw things up want, will result in (ie, for american idol fans - taylor hicks winning ;-). I don't know, just saying. There might also be a decrease in votes for those two, since a lot of people might assume that they're safe (again, referencing american idol, the MANY shock eliminations).

I'm definitely planning on being there for my first time. Very excited :)

I will be there again this year.

Hoping for some Maverick night rides again where it is flying around that track!

As well, maybe some trimless night rides on Magnum! One can hope!

I know what you mean cause I talked to a friend of mine from the point and he said that a BUNCH of his cp friends voted for the "weird" ones. I sure hope my fears aren't true cause I'd hate to not have some Dragster ert.

More details on CoasterMania! 2009...

We hope to announce the full ERT line-up tomorrow. If not, in the next few days at the CoasterMania website.

Also, many have asked about "registration." While there is no official online or in-park registration this year, you WILL have to stop at the specially marked ticket booths at the Main Entrance to receive your meal ticket, lanyard and drink wristband. You can do this at any time on Friday or Saturday.

You MUST show your valid coaster club ID to "register," receive the items and attend the event.

Thanks Tony.

Will the Front Gate still be the only entrance for ERT on Saturday morning? Also, will we get free coffee and donuts like last year? Please! :)

Thanks! See you in 2 weeks!

I am REALLY hoping that they've fixed this actually. Kind of negates many of the pros for staying at Hotel Breakers if we have to drive around to get to the gate anyway =P If you're staying ON the point, you should be able to walk to the park (or have the shuttle running that early?). Crossing my fingers...

All the years we've stayed at the Hotel Breakers, there has been a shuttle starting at 5 am to take us to the Main Entrance.

Good schedule. Needs MOAR Magnum though! ;)

I might skip evening ERT on Saturday. I'd like to do Raptor, but I'm not sure I want to stay in Sandusky another night. I'll probably just drive home sometime Saturday afternoon.

Sounds wonderful. I'm really loving the 2 hours of my beloved Millennium Force.

It's all about getting around the barrels, or over the fences, right leads, no faults, fastest time and looking pretty when done. What's so hard about that?

Sorry to be a party pooper, but I am not much liking this whole "we pick our ERT schedule" results... First of all, Millenium and Dragster at the same time? blech. Second of all, I have always loved having Dragster in the evening, which is the way it has always been the times I have gone. I rode Millenium like crazy in the morning, then Magnum in the evening until Dragster opened up, then Dragster like crazy. The schedule seemed to stay pretty similar, and I really liked the layout before. It also looks like Saturday evening will be an early night for me, as I'm getting "older", and my head can't do too many rides on the inverted coasters anymore (unfortunately). So just kinda sucky for the likes of me. I will forgive them though if I it's true that the morning ERT on Dragster will increase likelihood of rollbacks =P I need one of those... (of course, that also would mean that our ERT would be strewn with delays, which would entirely suck for those NOT on the rollback, since our normal ERT on Dragster is pretty much line-free (well, 10-15 minutes)). Anyway, sorry, I just liked a lot of aspects to the old schedule, which makes me kind of sad. The only good news for me is that Magnum is still in the evening, which is awesome. Anyway, apologize for my poopiness, just wanted to comment... Hopefully all the other aspects to CoasterMania will be up to par, and make it the great event I am used to...

Also, does anyone know what the deal is with not having a Q&A session for everyone to attend? I've always enjoyed it (of course), and it's been a great break from the sun in the hot middle of the day. I am hoping the "special presentation" will make up for it, at least in the enjoyment aspect, since it will not be providing that break in the day, lol ;-)

The special presentation is not a substitute for the Q&A; the Q&A is often offered as a substitute for the special presentation. If you'd been attending CoasterMania for more years you'd know that and would realize this is probably a good thing.

After all, which would you prefer to sit through? An interesting, prepared interactive (meaning "related questions taken") presentation? Or a Q&A where your fellow coaster nuts ask inane and/or impolite questions for which everybody in the room already knows the answers?*

* The manufacturer has a specification for the seat belt length on Millennium Force; no, Gemini will not run backwards; you will hear about next year's attraction when they choose to announce it; if we had our way, there would be *no* rollbacks on Dragster; Disaster Transport isn't going anywhere; Mean Streak runs the way it does to balance maintenance requirements with rideability for average people; Mr. Kinzel wears a size 10D; and Geauga Lake was mostly shut down because it was a financial basketcase for which you can thank Six Flags.

Did I miss anything?

First of all, thank you for answering my question, but no need to demean the fact that I have not been coming for that many years, and thus don't know ;-) I enjoy finding out anything, honestly, just didn't know what to expect from the "special presentation", because I have not been to a Cedar Fair event where they had one, only ones with Q&As. I suppose the Q&A assumption has slowly built to an expectation because practically all ACE events I have been to have had a Q&A, that's all, so I didn't know that it wasn't typical. I apologize for my naivety =P

Sorry, I wasn't meaning to demean anything; if anything I hope somebody got a chuckle out of it. If you've been around PointBuzz for a while, then you know I'm not that kind of p--

Oh. I see. You are new around here. Nothing wrong with that! Sorry; my apologies; welcome to PointBuzz! :) Believe it or not, I really am a nice guy, most of the time, anyway. :)

Anyway, as you can see from the CoasterBuzz web page over on CedarPoint.com, we're supposed to have a keynote address from Ron Toomer, who was president of Arrow when Magnum was built, and I imagine he will probably take questions. If he doesn't, you can count on there being some form of presentation (and probably Q&A) with some park people. But this year they have a keynote (just as they had a few years ago when they got Sandor Kernacs to come from Intamin) so the Q&A, while odds are it will still happen, isn't the focus of the presentation, and probably won't include the broad panel we've seen in some recent years.

Sorry I misinterpreted =) It's been a long weekend, and I'm tired, ha ha. I look forward to heading up in a couple weeks! I need my Millenium and Dragster fix...
