Its just the sun reflecting off the track.

Alright, thanks.

Thank goodness. I can't imagine it being any other color.

I couldn't imagine Iron Dragon as anything but gray and red, but that didn't stop them did it.

I agree Jugga.
Speaking of Corkscrew's track color. Did the color used to be sky blue in its first few seasons as opposed to dark blue that its been for many years? Why the change? I'm sure it showed more ware and tare as a light shade.

<bad lions joke> Did Andre use it as a mirror? </bad lions joke>

;)

I didn't realize it had been anything other than the dark blue it is now. Anyone have pics of it pre-dark blue?

Jugga, next time you are in the park (May maybe?), check out the Town Hall, there is a photo up of the Corkscrew from '76 or '77 that shows the track being light blue. I also have some old CP Financial Reports from the late 70's with these photos as well.

Huh. Almost every trip I talk a walk through town hall. I must have either missed this picture or didn't think anything of it. I'll make sure to check next time I'm there.

I rode the Corkscrew the first year it opened and it seems to me it's always been dark blue...but then, that was 30 years ago and it could just be a failing memory.

When the track fades, it can have a tendency to look lighter than it really is.

Walt used to have pictures of brochures...maybe he can find one for 1976 and settle this.

Linda,

I think you're right. I was also there in '76 and seem to remember dark blue. Funny how I would ride the world's first triple looper, but Jumbo Jet scared me off.

I just assumed that being the bicentennial year, CP made it a dark blue, red, and white; instead of a sky blue, red, and white. That's also what I've heard.

Smoking Marijuana isn't a bad thing or even a good one, like everything else, its what you make of it.

I found a brochure online from '79 with a shot of Corkscrew with sky blue track. Ok, hopefully this link works:
http://www.thepointol.com/history.html

I can't figure out how to bring the link right to the brochure image so you'll have to click on "Archives" and select the 1979 park brochure. There is an up-close shot of a red train on sky blue track.

How about this

That does certainly look like sky blue.

1980 looks like its sky blue as well.

Looking at some of the pictures, its hard to tell if its just a trick of the camera or if the track is that light. 1983 looks like it could be darker, but its almost a dull blue, not the shiny dark blue that we have now.

I agree; it seems that the track was changed to a darker blue (near to what it is today) in '82 or '83.

The Amazement Park

Yeah, I think you can color me wrong about my post above.

I am not so sure guys, I have to agree with OldCPr, I think it was dark blue when it opened and may have faded by 1979 when that pic was taken. Hence the repaint around 1982, 83. Just a theory though, after you hit 40 the memory starts to go fast, LOL.

The memory is not the only thing that starts to go!

Sorry about that Mr. Scott, haven't had any problems in that area yet, however my back is completly shot. :}

I wish they would stay consistant with keeping the words Corkscrew on the sides of the trains. I have pictures of the ride with the words on it and pics without it.

I feel sorry for people who don't drink. When they wake up in the morning, that's as good as they're going to feel all day.
