CP weekday in May

So I know this is early in the offseason to bring this up, and I have read a few trip reports but I plan on taking a trip out to the point during the middle of the second week in May. From those of you that have been there on weekdays in early May, how have your experiences been?

It's generally light crowds. Weather is a bit unreliable. It can be anything from 75 and sunny to really cold and rainy or windy. If yo uhave to plan your vacation way in advance, make sure you take a couple days, because 1 day might be rained out.

We go the first week every year, starting usually with Sunday eve. Crowds are low, many rides are walk-on, in 2005 the weather was perfect. Other years nbot so good. Hours are short, remember, only open till 8 on weekdays so no night rides. Sometimes you run into large school groups, science days, etc- but I think it's the ideal time to go.

I'm the oldest one here. CP emp '73-'74

Instead of making another thread I thought I would ask it here. I am planing on going opening day to CP. Are the crowds generally then.

There are usually about 80,000 people on opening day. It is shoulder to shoulder on the midways. Definitely not a good time to go.

i love going in may. not too hot and all the kids should be in school. it's a good time to shrug off the winter and get some fresh air.

Same with closing day, Jugga. Horrible, horrible time to go. Don't plan to go Closing Day '06.

For real, Closing day and opening day set new attendance records every year. And with this being the 130 somethingth year of operation, that's a lot of records that have been broken. I'd say if you want low crowds, plan to go the first weekend in November next year.

Yeah, there's hardly nobody there!

I ask a simple question and can't even get a good answer.

juggalotus,

Thanks for the laugh. Your a little off with your 80k figure. You must not be in the know. And the record as of when I left was on the Saturday before Columbus day in 2003. But after hearing some of the stories about October, that might have been broken. But no way was it 80k.

As far as May goes, avoid science day and you will be fine. While there are plenty of school groups, most leave by 5 or 6 pm. My advice is don't plan on eating around 1 to 3 pm. It seems everyone is hungry at this time and every food stand is not open.

Hey CP4eva'04, I went on opening day in 2003. It was really busy that day, of course it was Dragsters first day. I don't know though, didn't seem any more crowded then a warm summer day in July.
I'm planning on going opening day simply because its opening day (like everyone else), yet if you only are making one trip and want to hit all the rides, I'd advice another day.

Opening day and closing day are the two days you'll figure out how many people actully have season passes.;)
