Designated Smoking Areas

Ugh... We're being invaded by chains.

Where did you get that info?

And if it is true, where will it be? Also, where is the panda express be located at?

what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard.
Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it.
I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

One thing that impressed me when I was at Magic Mountain in January was, despite the Six Flags reputation, how well they dealt with people smoking in line. I saw 3 or 4 people try to light up, and they were all confronted by security people and escorted from the line before they even got it lit. I can't say I've ever seen anyone removed from the line at CP. They usually just put it out until the cops/ride ops go away, then light up again. I'd like to see CP get tough on actually removing the offenders from the lines rather than just threatening to.

^^ I agree. I don't think CP is nearly tough enough on smokers in lines. I've seen people smoking in clear view of someone in authority and nothing has been done about it. I think some employees just want to avoid the hassle of a confrontation. I think this is a nice policy, but only if its strictly enforced. If not, they may as well not even bother.

Thrills Around the Corner!

Cedar Point will still need just as many sweepers. I was a sweep for two seasons, and believe me, unless there's a trash ban limiting trash to four areas of the park, then I'm willing to bet the sweeps can keep their job. Cigarette butts are a part of what sweeps pick up. Keep in mind, most visitors to Cedar Point aren't always willing to walk to the nearest trash receptacle...not applicable to those with respect and courtesy, of course.

Which is kinda funny if you think about it. Even if you're at the farthest from any trash can, you're still within 15 feet of the nearest one.

Wait a dang minute... are you saying that there's other trash on the ground besides cigarette butts? Surely, you must be joking.

Designated Smoking Areas.....

HA! Good luck with that. I highly doubt the park guest will actually obey these rules. I mean it's not like some give two ****s about the no smoking in line rule, you know.

Designated Smoking Areas...it's a good laugh if anything.

Actually...I was. (end sarcasm)

I think it will make it easier to enforce it in the lines. At least, if people realize they can't smoke on the midways, they will hopefully assume that they can't smoke in lines. A lot (notice, I didn't say all) of the people smoking in lines don't realize that they're not allowed to. Especially if the average worker walking down the midway enforces the rule (as we are supposed to), I think that this rule will work out relatively well.

I hope that they invest in some signs, though, and don't rely simply on people reading the park map.

The easiest way to crack down on smoking in line is to put cops at the bigger lines where they can monitor the entire line. And have them start booting people for lighting up.

The ops already have enough on their plate dealing with oversize and under-tall guests to be dealing with the smokers.

Well, yeah - the people who smoke those cigarettes are also standing on the ground, therefore they're adding to the "trash".

I kid, I kid, of course. Those of you who know me, know that I don't give a rat's ass whether or not someone smokes around me.

As someone who has vollenteered many times to clean a highway, and parks I can tell you that in either situation ciggerette butts>>>>>all other trash combined.

Not to mention the fact that as society now stands today butts are the only thing that is not biodegradable that you can toss on the ground in plain view of others without risking a dirty look for littering.

^^^^ No doubt!

Looking forward to Cedar Point- July 4th-5th, 2007!

I wonder where the smoking area at the park will wind up being... The Rider Safety Guide says between Troika and the Giant Wheel, but Tony and Tyler are saying near the Raptor restrooms.

According to the blog, there are FIVE smoking sections:

1) near the Raptor restrooms

2) near the Panda Express restaurant

3) next to the Frontiertown train station

4) near the entrance to Paddlewheel Excursions

5) behind Giant Wheel near Wicked Twister

Instead of totally relying on ride ops to enforce the rules, the hundreds of other employees in the park could also shoulder that resposibility..just a thought.

I'm not a smoker, and being around smokers is a pet peeve... I've almost never had a problem with smokers at Cedar Point.

I've seen people smoking, sure, but I can't recall ever seeing someone close to me smoking in line, or being obnoxious about it.

Well I am a non-smoker too and I cannot handle being around smoke.. so until now that has meant not going to restaurants, not going out with friends, not going anywhere where there was smoke.. that is not fair to me to not be able to enjoy any places because I cannot handle the vile stench and do not want to get cancer any earleir than absolutley necessary...

I have had a LOT of bad expereinces with smokers at Cedar Point both on the midways and in lines... I have reported smokers in lines numerous times and I am proud to say they got tossed out of line because of my efforts... I wish more people would be so diligent about the enforcement of their prior policy of not permitting smoking in queue lines...

I strongly welcome this change in policy and while I wish that it had gone further, I recognize that it is an important first step in ensuring the comfort and health saftey of ALL of the guests at Cedar Point. *** Edited 3/30/2007 2:29:15 AM UTC by Andrew VanAtta***

With the new Ohio law, I believe CP police will actually be able to ticket people for not obeying posted signs about only smoking in designated areas. I can't really see CP giving out tickets, but if they really crack down this coming season, the following years shouldn't be as bad.
