Disaster Transport Memories

Just read these forums, no one cares about the coaster count anymore. Quality over quantity my friend

Bronze medal bad.

Dick Kinzel still cares. :)

DT and WildCat weren't up to Cedar Point's expectations.
Would you rather have a park with 20 crappy coasters or a park with 10 really good coasters.
Exactly. The coaster wars are over and Cedar Point has won.

I'm surprised that nobody has freaked out that not only is CP no longer "America's Roller Coast," but is in third place now behind Magic Mountain and Canada's Wonderland.

Have fun with that one :)

They actually have "America's Roller Coast" trademarked so that'll never go away :)

Enjoy the rest of your day at America's Rockin' Roller Coast! Ride On!

Makes me sad.. This was my first coaster ever I wasn't alive when it was Avalanche Run, but Disaster Transport welcomed me to the Cedar Point family you could say lol. It was a blast and after that I rode DT first thing as soon as I arrived at the park every year after that. This was one of my favorite rides. It used to be a laughable ride, but over time it seemed to pick up credibility and become an instant classic. It's unfortunate that this and Space Spiral have to be sacrificed for the new ride. I just hope the new ride is worth losing these two iconic rides. It's gonna be really sad to see their tombstones at this or maybe next years Halloweekends.
R.I.P- Avalanche Run/Disaster Transport May 11, 1985- July, 29 2012

It is also sad that Wildcat didn't get the chance to help the kids and give a final ride like DT and Paddlewheel did. Come to think of it Demon Drop didn't get that opportunity either.

...and enjoy the rest of your day at Cedar Point, The Am-aaaa-zement park!

Disaster Transport is hardly an "iconic" ride of Cedar Point. Space Spiral on the other hand has history and was part of the focal point of my personal favorite Cedar Point logo over the years as part of the skyline.

The only memory I have of Disaster Transport is of non-working lights and special effects and a ton of dust in the query area. The only think I hate to lose is Space Spiral. We rode that most every time we were in the park.

Inthunknits sad that there are no videos of the que or the ride from 1990 when everything worked. Not many people even remember the story or the effects.

In Google Maps, you can actually walk through the park and the 360 view was taken while DT was still running (I'm guessing 2010 or 2011). What was interesting to me is that there is a line for DT that appears to enter somewhere after the three rooms of queueing.
My question is when was the entrance rerouted? The last time I rode, I remember still having to walk through one of the rooms that had been walled off for a haunted house.

4 years... Over 4 friggin' years without a reply. Really?

What was your question?

My Google Maps show Gatekeeper and the clearing land for Valravn. My Google Earth shows half of Disaster Transport. So, I can't find the picture you're referring to.

1999: First visit
Halloweekends- Harvest Fear, Tombstone Terror-Tory
Ride Operations- Professor Delbert’s Frontier Fling

I'm using a the phone app. So if you find the Gatekeeper/ DT/Space Spiral area on the map, then long-press to place a pin somewhere in that area, another box pops up with a picture and that is the "street view" from inside the park.

On Google Earth, use the History slider and you can pick the date of the image. Kind of cool to see the changes over time. Also cool to see how improve the technology is since 1995.

Are you referring to how they stopped using the three major show rooms in its last years running since they took forever to walk through for a rude that didnt have a large line too often (and upkeep probably had something to do with it).

Yes, but toward the end I remember still having to walk through the thee rooms. The Google Steet View picture has the actual entrance to the building all the way off to the right near the exit. I don't remember that ever being the "new" entrance to DT and wanted to know if anyone can recall what year that happened.

After happy jacks toy factory was there a couple of years, they just didn't bother to remove the Halloween decor. And moved the entrance close to the exit. It was nothing major, just less space for them to "maintain" 😂😂😂 or air condition 😂😂😂.

Personally, disaster transport is one memory of the park I'd like to forget completely, thanks for this trip down Dissappointment Transport memory lane.
