Down sizing

Does anyone think that CP will ever get too big for it self and have to down size?

I guess it will all depend on how strong the economy stands.

Do you even know what downsize means?

They would only downsize if they had money trouble. But they would either take out a ride or halt the building of a coaster to keep from spending alot so they could keep people. Or raise prices. They arent like Six Flags who cuts the more important people and keep the less important people.

Webster.com:

Downsizing:
1 : to reduce in size; especially : to design or produce in smaller size
2 : to fire (employees) for the purpose of downsizing a business

Lets add new rides 3 years in a row then downsize. That makes a lot of sense...

^ - to an accountant it does.

You just had this huge capital expenditure and need to make that number at the bottom black. The easiest way to do that is to cut costs (i.e. bodies).

I would be willing to let CP shut down DT, CCMR, Demon Drop, and a small flat or two if they need the extra buck... but let's be serious, they're not going to do that. CP is dedicated to pleasing everyone, no matter what the cost.

^You may have touched upon a different topic, but CP is not dedicated to pleasing everyone.

That said, I don't foresee Cedar Point downsizing anytime in the next many years.

They most definitely are going to run out of room.

Wow... haven't had a chance to say this in a long time...

Cedar Point does not have a space problem.(TM)

If CP was into pleasing everyone, the food wouldn't be so mediocre, overpriced and poorly served.

^...Uhm..they dont? Where do you suppose they could build without tearing down a ride...

They did it with Skyhawk, maXair, Millennium Force, Top Thrill Dragster, and Wicked Twister. With both Millennium and Dragster they relocated things, but hey, what wrong with rearranging? And with Wicked Twister they scrapped the arcade, but that's not a ride. So, Cedar Point has proven they can build without taking out rides.

For the record, those are in no particular order. I just thought of them and typed as I thought.

And go back further, mantis and power tower were built in small places.

Im talking about without DISMANTALING anything, i hate it when they dismantle things because i love all of CP's rides.
Like with WWL..was amazing tore it down, if they honestly had enough space they wouldnt have to do that..but MS should go..terrible ride taking up a load of space.

Power Tower took out Jungle Larry's. I'm not saying it didn't deserve to go, but I bet a lot of people liked it.

Cedar Point obviously has limited space, but that just means they have to be more creative than a park in the middle of a field.

Uhh...yeah...I get that exact sentiment everytime I read or hear a Kinzel interview. "We wanna spend, spend, spend, so we can please EVERYONE!!!1!!1!!!"

Reality check: CP/Cedar Fair, like any business, is dedicated to increasing EBITDA, EBIT, NI, EPS, EVA, etc, etc, etc, this quarter and nothing else.

Jungle Larry decided not to renew his contract and relocate permenantly to FL. With that said, the old Jungle Larry site stood vacant for 3? years. When CP decided to put in Power Tower, it was the logical place since that space was empty and it was centrally located for the iconic Power Tower structure.

That doesn't even make sense as a response to what Ben and I pointed out. We gave a list of 7 rides built in the past 10 years that were built without sacrificing any rides.

Jungle Larry's was gone for three years? Wow. I guess that was before the days I was paying that much attention to the details. :) Then again, I never even went in to Jungle Larry's, so if it was closed, I wouldn't have ever known. ha ha!! Was it free to see? I wonder why my family and I never went in. hmmmm.
