Future Cedar Fair Property..

Any possibilty or word out of Cedar Fair owning another park? Or is there some reason they wont? Also does Cedar Fair, buy out other parks, I thought that Knotts, was once owned by someone else at one time.

The more you ride it, the more you want it!

Currently this year CF is managing a park down in the south with the opportunity to buy. Knotts Berry Farm was owned by someone else it was acquired by CF i think in 1995.

Will May 6th ever arrive?????
The Visionland plan fell through a few weeks ago, SkyrideChic. I've not been following the story since then and don't know if Visionland found someone else to manage the place (they "were extremely confident that we'll find another interested party quickly"), but I, for one, am somewhat glad that Cedar Fair is out of the deal. Naturally, each side blamed the other when this happened.

Has Cedar Fair ever built a park from scratch? I know that Knots and Dorney and Valley Fair were bought.
I think someone else decided to run visionland if i remember reading correctly over on coasterbuzz.

Welcome back Millennium Force riders...We all want to know how was your RIDE!!!!! 3 days till B-day...1st ride batman SFO...my late B-day present MF :)

Back around '76, before CP purchased Valley Fair, they were planning on buying aroung 800 acres for a MAJOR them park near Battle Creek to open in '78. The deal fell through at the last minute, though, and we ended up with Valley Fair. CF does has never built a park from scratch yeat unless you want to count Soak City.

The most recent acquisition was White Water Canyon or something like that in California. I would tend to think that their growth will be largely by acquisition, not new construction.

Park visits May 6, 7, 10, 11, 13, 14, 16, etc...
Yeah, and its a heck of alot cheaper to start out.
Not necessarily, sometimes it could be cheaper to start from scratch, but generally it is a huge investment. Through an acquisition, the the capital (i.e., rides, attractions, food stands, etc..) is already there. Depending on the nature of the acquisition can result in a much lower purchase price (in the case of say bankruptcy proceedings, financial woes, etc..)

The Dawn of the Millennium is upon us!!
Everyone, grab your season passes
and repent!!
I don't think Cedar Point will build a park anywhere in Michigan because a lot of their business comes from Detroit and areas around it. Someone said something about a Hotel being built there though

Detroit is part of CP's market. They won't build anything in that area. Why shoot yourself in the foot. With all the casinos popping up around here, I do see someone building some sort of amusement complex in the area.

Dave,
Cedar Fair still owns the 800 or so acres near Battle Creek, Michigan. The deal fell through in the late 1970's when the City of Battle Creek wouldn't provide tax incentives. This property is within 2 miles of I-94, and the park was slated with a 1982 or 1983 opening. At last check, CFLP also owns some land near Onsted, MI, that was slated to be a "frontier" themed park back in the 1970's.
Cedar Fair's recent triumphs have been with acquisitions... I wonder what's next?

Ahhh, so they still do own it. I couldn't quite remember.

I thought six flages was looking at that area. I heard they didn't because of lack of hotels in the area. I guess I was wrong.
