Future high-definition video downloads

I get the message, "Bad Data from Peer List". Don't know why.

When I click on the link BitTorrent opens and it says 0.0% dowloaded of cattest.mov.

Yeah, it ended up failing for me as well.

Bad Data from Tracker ... nothing downloading ... tracker not working.

Tells me that one is already running.

Here's my $.02 ~

I've been using torrents for a looong time, so I already had Azureus running and stuff. I added the cattest a while ago, and I jsut checked it (kinda forgot about it) and lo and behold, it's completed and sitting here waiting. The quality is AMAZING. If you get these going, I'll <3 you guys forever.

But I digress. I just tried downloading it again (moved the file elsewhere so it thinks I haven't downloaded it) and I'm getting the various tracker errors that others are getting. In the past, these have either meant that the tracker is dead, there are no seeds, something along those lines. This seems to be the case here, because when I move it back in everything starts working good and I become your lone seed (67.172.71.22 and 68.61.195.218, you're getting a nice fast download off of me :) ).

Just as a "reminder" to those of you new to the scene, in order for a BitTorrent-style distribution to be effective, there needs to always be at least one computer with the completed file to distribute (or different computers with different pieces, but you get the idea). I think Jeff was planning on being this computer, but he's apparently having firewall issues or something. As more of these HD vids get uploaded, this will become easier because there will be more interest, but for now this is what we've got. For what it's worth, I'll be going out of town for the next few days so I'll just leave this box running minimal apps and just leave it as a constant seed for anyone else wishing to check out Jeff's sexy cat.

Oh and for people having port/router firewall issues, check out PortForwarding for a bunch of general info (if you're that type, like me =p ). If you just want the quick explanation, head over to their Routers section, pick yours, and do what it says.

I took mine down. If you're really curious to see the file, replace .torrent with .mov, and for God's sake, don't download multiple times.

I just got it downloaded and it looks beautiful. I'm psyched to see Cedar Point videos of this quality.

Right, yes bittorrent is meant to be a file sharing app. If no one is on to share the file - there is nothing to download. I've downloaded all kinds of things in the past using bittorent. I'll give it another try this afternoon - as long as someone is still seeding.

Downloaded fine. Looks great! I was able to download the torrent.

I've yet to try it out, but the new Opera 9 Beta has a built in bittorrent application. This might be an easy way to go for these videos.
