Jumbo Jet

this maybe already answered somewhere.. but does anyone out there know WHY the jumbo jet only lasted what appears to be less then 15 years.... and when and why it was finally razed... it looked really cool ... was it not?? ... just curious .. thanks..
Jumbo Jet from what I can remember was one wild ride that packed quite a punch! It was taken down sometime in the early 80's and sent to some park in Mexico (Jeff knows the name, as it escapes me right now.)

Alas, I was never tall enough in 1973, 74, or 75 - those were the only years i went to CP when the Jumbo Jet was in operation :(

I envied my Dad and sisters who i would watch ride. It looked WILD. Didn't intamin build that??
Built by Anton the GOD...The track does look alot like Intamin, but it's a Schwarzkopf. Wild Cat is a Schwarzkopf also.

From what I remember Jumbo Jet was a GREAT ride that had plenty of maintence problems. I believe the ride was removed before the 1980 seaason replaced by The Wildcat which was moved so Oceana Studium could be built. I know we have discussed this before but.. you had to be 60" to ride, the trains were like Bayren Kurve. Always will have fond memories of this ride.
I read somewhere recently that there is a ride at Coney Island that is a Jumbo Jet clone. In fact, I think it may have the same name. I wish I could have experienced this ride, or any other of the Anton speedracer-type coasters.

I'm with you, ToofastGM3, Anton is a God. My home park, SFoT, has the Anton-built Shockwave double-looper from '78. After 22 years it's still smooth as glass with beautiful airtime! Long live Anton!
There is a coaster like this from Anton at Gillian's Wonderland in Ocean City NJ. It's called City Jet, rode it last summer and it is a good ride.

I remember it bigtime, but was too young to ride. The one thing I always remember from my parents was that it was scary because you couldn't see the track under you. I always remember looking at it during lunch, and seeing a car stuck on the lift. There's your answer to maintenance problems for those that have asked. It was a cool looking ride with a littl radar spinning at the top. There are a few pictures of it as it stood by the lake there in the early to mid 70's. I believe it was removed after the 1976 operating season.

Please wait till the ride comes to a complete
stop!
I had never gone on the ride but I heard that a passenger died on the Jumbo Jet. Doesn't sound like that would happen at CP but I'm sure that would be a reason to close.
I'm pretty sure theres been only 1 death at CP, and I think that was after riding a ride. A lot of people think people have been hurt on Wildcat from sticking theres arms out or something. Is there any truth to this?
