Just close Disaster Transport already. It was disgusting!

And in conjunction, the exterior could be made exponentially more attractive and aesthetically pleasing.

And the way to make this ride more appealing is to tear it down and let guests see the lake again from the park. This ride has been a joke since day one as Avalanche Run and I can only hope that this is the last year since they are not taking care of it. I remember standing in line for 2 hours in 1984 to ride this piece of garbage.

I don't like whenever classic/unique coasters are removed completely. Sure eventually they'll have to be taken out, but parks shouldn't take them out unless absolutely necessary. Iron Dragon, Disaster Transport, and even former Wildcat are rides that most parks can't say they have that type of. Even with the removal of Wildcat, having two other "special" coasters is what gives Cedar Point character and sets it aside from other amusement parks. Sure, you can tear them down and build a brand new steel monster (which sadly is what's happening to many bobsleds and suspendeds) but these coasters offer unique experiences and now are very rare. I very strongly hope that the rumor of the actual ride of DT remaining, and just the building coming down is true, because even though I'd love to see a new coaster I'd hate to see another one go in its place, especially one like DT.

There is so much cheap technology to utilize these days that would delight kids and adults alike, which could easily bring the ride back to a park favorite.

Lipstick on a pig. Actually, making it smell like bacon might be an improvement to some people.

Coupled with the possibility of selling Bacon flavored items in line, they could have a real cash cow......errrr pig, on their hand.

I rode DT today and was expecting it to be run down but it looked like it always has. Everything was working, including the AC. I enjoyed the ride

^^^But, the last coat of lipstick on the pig was apparently good enough to make it a viable attraction for 22 years.

And really, if you think of it serving a dual purpose being CP's dark ride, aren't all dark ride systems dull without good lipstick?

I was wondering if they could re-program the brakes to pause for 10-15 seconds at the mid-course (like Back Lot Stunt Coaster). Then, it could tell a story with interactivity on the lift, at the mid-course, and on the final runway.

Anyway, I'd rather CP have a contrived dark ride than none at all. I love the variety DT adds in a day, and it's nice to just get out of the sun and heat for a bit in the summer months.

Throw several million at it, and I think you could have an awesome dark ride / coaster combo.

Easy for you to say - it ain't your money. ;)

No matter how you slice it, the original ride is coming up on 30+ years of service, and as such, is nearing the end of its serviceable life. At a certain point, it makes far more fiscal sense to invest in a new ride that will last another 30 years. Throwing several million dollars at a ride that simply won't last another 10 or 15 years doesn't seem like a very intelligent business move.

This used to be one of my favorite coasters. It was a CP staple. No matter how amazing the other coasters were, we had to get at least one ride in on DT before we left.

The past few years though it has gone down hill a lot. From the poor theming to the horrible up keep of the ride (including the smell, which has been there for a while).

I am ready to see this thing go and bring in something new. :)

I'll give you three or four years, when the queue started to fall apart and they turned most of it into a haunted house.

And...presto...the thread is no longer necessary. :)

I'm not sure you should be so happy, Kevin. You're running out of starter coasters to stage your students through... ;)

True. That's an area Cedar Point would be smart to address soon.

I wonder where Happy Jacks will be moved to...

That has been one of my favorite indoor haunts since it's been around.

Ah Ensign you read my mind. It looks like it will be Mine Ride, Iron Dragon, and then right up to Gemini. :)

DT actually was in the lineup until about, well...5 hours ago.

I don't get it. Cedar Point has made it clear they wanna open more family attractions but in one year, WldCat, DT and SS will all be gone.

Three things:

1 - WildCat was not a family coaster.

2 - I don't think the park signed a contract to never again build another family attraction.

3 - Did you already forget about Luminosity?

You can't make an omelet without breaking some eggs. ;)

Not to mention that this coaster has been in the works for awhile before any regime change.

And Space Spiral is not exactly what I think of when I think "family ride".

^ The entire family can ride Space Spiral. It is pretty much the DEFINITION of "Family Ride."

^^ Don't you mean you can't make a Ouimet without breaking some eggs?
