Last Seats of the Season Contest

OnPointTony's avatar

Hi Everyone,

Long-time reader, first-time poster. Here's my topic:

On closing day, Sunday, Oct. 28, we're going to do something a little special. We'll post this information on our blog, but I thought I'd share it here first.

We're all bummed that the season is coming to a close. However, we're gonna have one last bit of fun before we have to start our winter overhaul.

We're looking for 10 lucky riders to be the "official" last riders on Maverick for its inaugural season. Hence the name, "Last Seats of the Season." The 10 riders will ride with me and Tyler on the last train of the night on Sunday, Oct. 28.

So how does this work? I'm glad you asked.

On Sunday, Oct. 28, to celebrate our 10 years of Golden Tickets, you'll be looking for 10 staff members with a Golden Ticket around their neck. If you spot one, go up to that staff member and repeat this EXACT phrase:

"The Old West Was Never This Wild - May I please have the last ride on Maverick?"

If you don't say this phrase exactly as stated, you will not get the Golden Ticket. The Golden Ticket is your ticket to ride on the last train of Maverick for the 2007 season.

So what do you win? I'm glad you asked this also.

You and a friend (that's ONE friend) will be invited back to the ride at 8 p.m. to get your last ride on Maverick. You will ride in the very last train while your friend will ride in the train ahead of it. We'll also give you a certificate that states you were the last riders on Maverick during its inaugural season. AND...we'll throw in free on-ride photos of your experience (one for you, one for your ONE guest).

So that's it. A little something to end the season in a fun way.

I should also mention that your seats will be assigned, so you don't have to worry about getting there at 7 p.m. to get the "best seat."

Look for the 10 Golden Tickets on Sunday, Oct. 28. And don't forget to mention the phrase. If you don't, you won't be handed the coveted Golden Ticket (which you get to keep also).

Any questions you have should be directed to the blog. We'll answer them there.

Good luck!

That's effin sweet.

Not sure if I'll even be staying until close, but if I get my hands on one, I will be.

Question: Will the ride-ops dress up like Oompa-Loompas and sing dance for us? ;)

Ride on, MrScott!

Yeah Yeah, but the question was more for the amusement of those here, not to actually be answered (I'm pretty sure I know what the answer is).

Dang it! More stuff I'm going to miss on Sunday. How fun to go around looking for the golden tickets! That would be a blast.

Who cares about Oompa Loompas; I just wish Johnny Depp was going to be there ;)

He's got nothing on Gene Wilder.

Depp wasn't bad, but Wilder was better.

I'm finding that many of you guys have liquid coming out of your nose. I've read it twice from two different people in the last 3 minutes. I found it interesting.

Anyway, I wish I could be there for this.

This kind of makes me wish that our wind ensemble wasn't doing a "tour" next weekend...oh well, my last ride will be Saturday morning, and that's good enough for me. I would like one of those Golden Tickets though.

Three things you need to fix anything in the universe: duct tape, WD-40, and a hammer. Duct tape if it moves and it shouldn't, WD-40 if it doesn't move and should, and the hammer as the last resort.

Not a bad deal, if you ask me. It will eliminate the whining and fighting that comes with the people who stand around and wait for the last ride.

I, for one, welcome this idea. Even though I wasn't planning on doing a "last ride", instead doing what I did last year and catching multiple rides on something while everyone else waits, this is most definitely something I'd be up for. I think it puts an element of "fairness" into it, so that the whining will stop. :)

P.S. Hi Tony.

Is this the first time Tony has admitted or made reference to reading pointbuzz forums?

Gene Wilder is only considered "better" because he was first. If you read the Roald Dahl books you'll see that in fact Johnny Depp is much much more true to the original character of the story. He did an excellent job capturing the images and intentions of Dahl.

I'll agree with Josh on that one. As I stood at Magnum's entrance last year watching Josh and friends go by 3 or more times I thought to myself "Hmm... maybe I should be doing that and not be standing here not riding..."

We'll miss you MrScott and Pete

How did we start a debate of who portrayed the most accurate interpretation of the characteristics of Willie Wonka, in a thread from Tony regarding the last ride on Maverick closing day?

Welcome to Point Buzz Tony. As Forest Gump says: "you never know what your gonna get". :)

I like this idea.....it'll keep people focused on the golden tickets ::giggle:: and keep them away from Dragster. :)

Fours hours later....I finally understand the Gene Wilder comparison. Now I can go to bed.

I like this idea very much. Those last rides of the season at TTD and MF are getting WAY out of hand. If it is organized I think there will be a lot less issues... I hope.
