Let's Remember Disaster Transport!

^ I agree with Jeff.

The ride isn't even like a roller coaster. It don't feel like a coaster, it don't look like a coaster, and above all.... it's layout sucks. You wait two hours and up to go on a half minute ride. At least when you wait two hours to go on Dragster you actually get something out of it. The line to get on DT is better then the ride it's self. The ride might be good for little kids, but all the wait does is take away from their day. Half of the little kids that get off the ride don't ride it again because the line is too long.

I say they take it down, and put something worth rideing in it's spot.

How many threads do we need on disater transport?....yawn

what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard.
Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it.
I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

I have to agree with Jeff on this one. The ride has always stunk and adding theming brought some novelty to the ride for 3 seasons at most. Once again we're stuck as what even Kinzel himself called "a dog of a ride."

I remember waiting forever for that ride back in 1990 and I never rode it as Avalanche Run, nor did my family ever care to go over there. Even with the effects and being 8 years old at the time I thought the ride was on par with the Pirate Ride: a slow paced dark ride with stuff to see, nothing more.

^^^ LOL.

DT isn't meant to be a thriller like Dragster is. It's a nice place to go and get out of the heat, and ride a short, mild roller coaster. I know that when I was younger I enjoyed it a lot. Even today I make sure to ride it once while I'm there. It's not a terrible experience, though it's definitely not worth a two-hour wait. It doesn't leave you in pain unlike some other coasters in the park *coughMantiscough*. It's just there for some people to enjoy it, and it serves its purpose.

It's called Millennium Force, not "Millenium" Force. Thanks.

I still like my idea of a woodie.

Let's Get Weird.

Yeah, why do all coasters have to be the tallest and fastest or exert 6 Gs on people to be good? The coaster is just fine for what is it. It's a unique ride experience at the park. But, part of what I found unique was seeing yourself in a trough outside. Now you don't even get that. I'd ride it if the building was gone. It's fun. Then again, I think The Whizzer at SFGAM is fun too.

Not all people WANT extreme rides.

The first time I rode on DT was I think it was in the late 80's or early 90's -- not sure exactly when or how old it was.

I was home on leave from the Air Force and my brother and I went to Cedar Point -- we were both just old enough to drink legally and spent tons of money on over priced beer getting a bit tipsy.

During the height of our being "tipsy" we rode DT and to this day we both still talk about how that was one of our favorite rides at CP on that trip.

Must have been the beer, huh?

DT my be a good "relaxing" ride, but it's just not worth it. for some reason, everytime I go the ride has way to long of line, for what? If people want to ride it to get out of the sun then they can just go in a store or mabye the arcade;)

I say bring on the woodie!!!!!:)

The fact that it has long lines so often tells you two things: it has a lousy throughput, and people like it anyway. Given that Cedar Fair has had to invest, what, twenty dollars, in theming for the ride over the last fifteen years, that makes it a continuing good investment.

I personally feel like it's still a fun ride. It's unique, loaded with character and charm despite its debatable theming, and my five year old daughter can ride it. 'Nuff said.

And nobody better repeat the rumor I heard, that Cedar Fair is moving Disaster Transport to Kings Island and renaming it Tomb Raider: The Ride. ;)

Ensign Smith,
If you look at the total ridership for DT, its usually just over one million rides in a year. TTD has yet to top one million rides in a year. Plus, Dragster opens in the morning before DT, and usually has a longer line in the evning. Anyway, I guess my point is that DT throughput is no worse than TTD.

In my most recent trip to Disney, I went on the Star Tours. As I walked through the line, I was just thinking "this is a lot like DT, except the way it should be done." They may not be idential, but they have some similarities.

I don't really think that they need to tear the ride down, but it seems to me that there is some nice waterfront property there that isn't used.

I remember riding DT when I was a kid, I was scared of roller coasters and kept my eyes closed the whole ride. I wish I would have kept them open, when the theming was all there. Now It's worth keeping your eyes closed with nothing to look at.

TTD may be just as bad in line, but it's a way better ride then DT. I know kids like DT but the line just takes away from the ride. If the line was shorter then what it is every single day then I would have nothing against it. But the ride just all around is not good enough for the wait time it has.

let's keep in mind that alot of people that go to cedar point never been their before. The only reason that DT has such a high number of people that ride it is because they don't know what it does.

Well, it would be hard to tell the difference between the outside of the buildings, anyway.

I remember the first year I rode DT (1994?) being given a speil in the first room, like a Disney pre-show. I forget when they stopped doing that.

I wonder where the theming firm got their ideas from? LOL!! They're a little TOO close if you ask me.

I am surprised no one has mentioned the "disaster" in the first year when the metorite fell (right after the first "drop/s curve".

Also, the horrible accident in 93 with the supervisor

I think the ride is cursed.

One of the props fell from the ceiling and landed on the track. I don't even think anyone was injured. I have no idea about a supervisor in 93.

The meteorite fell on the back of a shuttle. Fortunetely there was nobody sitting in the back otherwise they probably would have sustained serious injuries. I think it's still located in the large building area near the drop. When I seen it, it was pretty busted up.

I don't know anything about the accident with the supervisor though. I do remember hearing about someone falling off the transfer track while transfering a shuttle.

Another incident was the lift failed to stop a shuttle from proceeding into the next block which was occupied. The two shuttles hit at brake 1 which is right before the large room area.

Qualify your opinion. Why?

Because Cedar Point cares about safety and keeping their rides running, not theming and they have yet to find a way to offer both. All thats left of the trains on Dragster is paint. Pirate Ride is gone, Gemini competition is gone, DT theming is gone, the informative signs in the Demon Drop queue are gone, The TTD sign are faded, half the ride lights on half the rides don't work like they should or are out.

Maverick is going to turn out just like DT and TTD. The lights in the tunnel will go out and that will be that. Soon it will look like Raptor. Just sitting on a grassy pad with trees and a few rock formations with seagull crap all over it. That is until they take out the rock ala the White Water Landing cave. *** Edited 6/26/2007 4:00:05 AM UTC by Coastern3rd***
