Long rumored hypercoaster

As most of you know SFWoA got approval to build a hypercoaster on the wildlife side in 2002 and it even got into the Plain Dealer but for several reasons {poor attendence etc} it kept getting put off. I am just wondering if this coaster will ever get built? We could always use another hypercoaster in Ohio. I imagine it will be several years down the road if the ride gets built at all.
Did you see the article on Virtual Midway where someone from CP, Kinzel I believe, said they would like to install a coaster 'like Magnum'. That has led us to believe that they want to install a hypercoaster in the future.
I hope it does

Haven't they been rumoring about a Hypercoaster at MiAdv for awhile? It would be nice to see, though.

Honestly, sometimes I think Kinzel's quotes are as carefully scrutinized as Greenspan's.
It'll happen sometime...

With intamin coasters like Superman Ride of Steel and Expedition GeForce doing so well in the polls, it is not hard to see how you build a popular hyper. Do you think that CF will go for the number one ranked steel coaster if they build a hyper in GL?

needless quotation removed. why would you quote the previous post? it's not like we can't already read it. -J

It can't hurt business. Why not?

The hypercoaster or whatever ride is next will depend on how much money that park makes this year. We all know the customer service was not top notch there with SF. That drew some customers away from the start and stopped repeat customers....Along with bad upkeep on existing rides.

Now that CF is there, customer service and park cleanliness will improve, with a warmth to the park. Along with alot better ride upkeep, better PPH on rides. Thus increasing customer appreciation, customer base, revenue, and then bringing in a new ride sooner or later.

That's my opinion

I agree with you on this one, Hooper. There are going to be three major things that we'll notice in Aurora on 5/1:

1) All rides will run a capacity

2) Trash cans every 30 feet

3) Employees that aren't as surly

I agree with 1 and 2 but #3 isn't going to happen overnight. Geauga Lake will hire many more younger employees than Cedar Point. That is just the demographics they have to work with. They don't bring in college students in droves.

Training will be a focal point of the Cedar Fair regime change but as most people in the service industry know, training the youth of today to be motivated about their job isn't as easy as it use to be.

Then you fire them and hire someone who is. I expect to see alot of turnover.

I think the long-term solution to getting higher quality workers at the park is to build dorms and draw from a larger area. They said in the call (in response to Jes' question) they'd use teens, but I think you need college kids at least for team leaders and area supervisors. In fact, since they have the hotel out there, I'd block a set of rooms to house experienced area "soops" from CP and have them on the front lines. Doing what Rob suggests is over-simplifying the problem, I think. The good people are hard to come by.

What time does the water show start?

Ooooh if they had a place for me to live, I would SO be there.

I definitely love working at Cedar Point, but I would thoroughly enjoy helping to open the new park in it's premier season.

Actually, Live-E, this would be the first POST-Premier season for Geauga Lake... :)

Am I the only person who thinks we may see residence halls constructed on the "far" side of the lake someplace in the not-so-distant future?

A mix of Employee Housing and Resorts, I would think. Waterfront Property? Hello? Most of the land will be used for Resorts. A very small part MAY be used for Employee Housing.

They are surely going to capitalize on that.

I didn't say WHERE on the far side of the lake! Heck, I figure the most obvious place is the outboard part of the parking lot, where the land is already cleared and out of the way of park/resort development. Didn't mean to even suggest that they might waste perfectly good lakefront property for such a thing!

I think it would be really cool if the hypercoaster were to go out over the lake.... then we'd probably get the "the hypercoaster is sinking into geauga lake" rumors though.... but could you imagine having the coaster come down within feet of the lake?! that would be so awesome! Espically if it is like a really low overbank turn! Oh I'm getting some ideas here.... I'm going to have to get out my sketchbook tonight!

Arms down.....Arms down.....Arms down.......Arms down.....Arms down....Arms down...(you think they would get it the first time?!)

2003-TTD-15 Rollbacks-1
2004- Demon Drop (first year)

It isn't as easy as firing and rehiring. Even Cedar Point in the past 5 years or so has had to hire the type of employee they would NOT have hired 10-15 years ago. They are not immune to it but the college and BUNAC (foreigners) employees offset some of the issues.

I think that Geauga Lake has done some BUNAC hiring to a lesser degree and housed them in the Kent area. I think Jeff may not be far off in seeing some Cedar Point TL's and ATL's or Area Supervisors housed in the hotel (or even the campground) for the summer.

The WDW College Program started out with the seasonal cast members living in a "trailer" park called Snow White Village. They have since updated to condos which is a long way from the trailer park.

As far as the hypercoaster into the lake, I don't know if this is urban legend or fact but, I have heard that the actual lake is extremely deep which would make a nightmare for building footers. There would also be environmental concerns of course.

Dave, I've said this from the very beginning. I can easily see them building a hotel and employee housing on the old Sea World property.

As far as a hyper goes. I'm all for it as long as it's an Intamin air monster :)
