Magnum

Question out there. What was the reason why the strobe lights were taken out of the tunnels, personally, I thought they were awesome and add lots of excitement when going into the tunnels. Its still awesome in the dark, but just want to know why they took them out?
They didn't take them out, they just don't run them all the time because they cost money.
Also, I was looking at the Final Poll Results for the Steel Coasters and the Magnum finished 11th. I think that is awesome, especially for a coaster that been around for 11years. Not alot of coasters can do that, I guess thats why the Magnum is special.
FireDragon - what poll ranked Magnum 11th? Just curious.
Do you have the link of the results? I'd love to see them... Thanks!
I thought Magnum polled best steel coaster in the world? I duno...I thought i saw that on the CP site...and on a few shows on TLC and Discovery channel.

"Welcome back riders, DID YOU ENJOY YOUR FLIGHT?"
It all depends on which poll you are looking at. Many people have different opinions. I don't think there is an official poll for roller coasters. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think Cedar Point and the Discovery Channel both use the rankings from Inside Track magazine and they say that Magnum is number one. *** This post was edited by BradwagsCP on 3/2/00. ***
Well considering that Inside Track magazine has been out of publication for a few years now, Amusement Today has what could be an "official" poll. The ranking in question is from 1999 Internet Steel Tracked Roller Coaster Poll. Here is a synopsis of the top 20:
*** Favorite Wood Coaster Any Park Anywhere ** 97 165 2 2 0.9822

Actually, those votes petered out at around 40, when it went out to rec.roller-coaster

I should note that I posted notices about the poll, and *linked* to it both here and at Coasterbuzz.
Any poll is bunk if it doesn't cover a large enough section of people. Amusement Today covers a lot of different types of people involved with the industry, and it gets circulated throughout the country. That poll that was just finished limits the potential number of people because only the internet junkies can get to it. Personally i thought it was entirely to time consuming to bother with. So there went one vote for the Magnum. Anyway, i don't take much stock in those polls.
Polls really are bunk. I don't take much stock in them, either. But Montu at #2? It's so over-braked it's about as exciting as the drive to the park. (Sorry! I've completely left the topic!)

Anyway, Magnum holds up well in any true coaster-lover's book. And it seems to get better with age. Too bad they're tearing it down because it's "obsolete". (hehe)
I voted in the Internet Steel Coaster poll because of Bill's link. :o)
