Major announcement on Monday morning!

What was added in 1898?

1898? According to the PointBuzz Cedar Point History timeline, nothing but new management by the Boeckling Co.

1888 brought the Grand Pavilion, which was renovated last year. 1899 brought the White House hotel, later renovated into the Cedars, which was spared demolition this season.

Announcement? Maybe it's "Mean Streak won't be closing in August, either."

Ah, yes. 1888 saw the opening of Victorian Prudishness: The Ride.

I assume that Cedar Point will be announcing new water conservation measures. :)

They didn't test Intamin, did they ^

Xcelerator came before Top Thrill Dragster. Not that it helped.

That was their very first coaster. Anything built by them after Millennium Force has been plagued with issues.

MS is one of if not the most expensive attractions to maintain all the while with low turnstile numbers. It's not if but when. Although I wouldn't expect it for 2017.
2000-2003 saw the addition of three coasters, yes. Six flags opened four coasters in ONE year a little over an hour away. KI was building up too.. That type of competition no longer exists.. I would be pleasantly surprised if a coaster project is in the works for 2017.

They did the Breakers update and Rougarou conversion in the same year. I don't think it is likely but it would not surprise me in the least if we were to see a MS refurb and Soak City expansion in the same year.

They sold a stand alone park to finance Breakers Remodel. Doubt they're making that kind of investment in 2017.

Soak City expansion might persuade me to check out the water park (never been through that gate) next season when I'm at Cedar Point anyway, but wouldn't be the driving force behind a trip to Sandusky. . An RMC conversion of Mean Streak would entice guests to return to Cedar Point in general.

Families (key demographic) with children would be very enticed by a soak city expansion.

Being able to enjoy a day of actual activities at the water park with your family, instead of waiting three hours in line for a coaster is a great idea.

It was still money that could have gone elsewhere. But the remodel was obviously necessary.

That park was sold specifically to pay for Breakers, it wasn't just extra Captial laying around for them to use.

Current management sees the immense value of the resort properties and addressed the problems they were having filling the rooms on repeat and extended stays.

The value of the Breakers remodel is seen clearly in the last financial report. And overall 1% increase in park attendance and a massive 6% increase in out of park revenue (mainly CP reports). The park now charges premium room rates which they rarely discount and offer upgrades and upcharge benefits to guests willing to pay for it.

The hotels are no longer just an okay place to sleep after waiting in line for hours upon hours. Management sees them as a key to driving revenue, which in turn leads to more capital improvements at the park for all to enjoy.

And that worked out so well for the park that got four coasters in one year....

I'm a Marxist, of the Groucho sort.

Pardon my ignorance, but which park was sold to find the breakers expansion?

Knott's Soak City in San Diego.

Honestly, I'd be happy if they announced more hotel rooms, in addition to the Breakers Express addition underway. Possibly where the Cedars is located, upscale suites or villas even.

The park currently sells out of all rooms/ cabins/ RV sites on point and sees the need for The Breakera Express addition. So the demand is there and upscale on point demand is high. So that or maybe sandcastle redo.

The investment CF is putting into the sports complex obviously leads them to believe they will have cross promotions with accommodations being a large part of that, which will also drive attendance at Cedar Point. Out of park revenue is the major growth factor here.

Nope, it was all of the modern Intamin steel rides, including Millennium Force. I want to say that Superman at Darien Lake was the first of them, and it had issues valleying, and of course tossed a rider with the older restraint configuration in 1999.

If the announcement is that MS is permanently closing, I want dibs on first chainsaw. I can't wait to see that eyesore disappear.
