Maverick Valleying

I heard a little rumor that Maverick has already valleyed in the horshoe roll. It seems that it really crawls through the second inversion. Can anyone who has seen the ride testing in person verify that the trains are making it through the horshoe roll at a decent speed?

Just out of morbid curiosity, where did you hear this rumor?

Brandon

I noticed the webcam/pondcam has been stuck on the same view for a week, although it indicates it's recycling...figured it out when I knew it was cloudy and grey at CP yet the cam showed clear blue skies.

They've still got two and a half weeks to work out any glitches with Maverick.

I believe he heard it on Screamscape - and we know how reliable they are. They didn't even note Maverick was testing until a week or so later.

IF Maverick valleyed at all, I don't see why that would be a problem. Look when they started testing. It was FREEZING outside and there was probably a brisk wind off the lake. Couple that with a brand new LSM system that they're still tweaking and I could see how it might not get enough speed to finish. This is why its called TESTING. They're not just cycling the ride over and over and regular speed. They need to see how slow it can go and still make it, how fast it can go and still stop, etc... The purpose of testing is to figure out everything they can about the ride BEFORE people get on it.

Raptor valleyed. Do you think Raptor crawls through the course? I certainly don't.

^ Depends....is there a strong wind off the bay?

It wouldn't surprise me if it's valleyed. I would think getting it to intentionally valley might even be part of a standard testing procedure just so they have some guidelines so it doesn't happen later.

Either way, it will be ready to go on May 12. Stop getting your panties in a wad. :)

Ditto to the previous posts by halltd and bholcomb. If it did valley, and that is a big "IF", then I am glad because that means that the crew can find out why and correct it (that is what testing is for), so that when we are sitting on it, it won't!! :)

Most coasters valley at some time or another. It's abnormal if a coaster never has.

Well, there must be some reason why we still go there occasionally... the busted embargo on the Maverick project comes to mind (or leak or whatever happened). There is always room for a site that bites the hand that feeds.

The rollback/valley didn't sound like anything to be concerned about. can't wait to ride.

It valleyed in the horseshoe curve because the Intamin dudes thought they were safe sending the train without water dummies. I don't think it is anything to stress over.

It did valley in the horseshoe roll on its very first test but as said above, there was nothing wrong with the ride, just didn't have the right conditions to make it all the way.

Better that it valley now than on Sunday of closing weekend when people have been waiting 2 days for it to stop raining so they can ride. *cough* RAPTOR *cough*

Or Skyhawk going into a free swing the day before I go, closing the ride for a couple days.

I'm very nervous about Maverick's uptime this season. It is after all a Intamin launch coaster that uses new technology. It's scary stuff. I just don't want to see that sign by the entrance the day I go saying "Maverick is Closed Today".

^This worries me also. Especially since I only make it up once a year, and then it is only for two days. After all the hype and anticipation, it will stink if I have to wait until 2008. On the other hand....the time I won't spend in Mave's queue line can be spent on Maggie, Millie, Raptor, or TTD!!! :)

Nick

I seriously doubt there will be problems as severe as TTD. LSMs are far more reliable than a hydraulic launch and have fewer moving parts involved. We also aren't dealing with same extreme speeds.

yes, i could see the valleying on the webcamm :)..gosh i really cant wait to ride maverick!!!

Total Maverick rides for the 2007 season = 27

Top 5--- 1. Maverick- 2. Millennium 3. Magnum 4. TTD 5. Gemini

Cavs- 2007 Eastern Conference Champions!.-

Whew, I don't want to jinx myself now. :)

Positive thoughts, Maverick is going to be awesome.

Less than three weeks now!!

The Panty Wads would be a good name for a punk band.

I am absolutely not worried. Maverick will be up and running on the 12th. And even if it's not, the planet will continue rotating. ;)

Theoretically it will.

May 12th could also be the day that the sun goes supernova and neither Maverick nor Earth will be here any more.
