Mill Race removal

I was thinking about the Mill Race. I remember riding this when I was younger. Anyway, I was wondering exactly why it was removed. Was it mainly just because of Raptor? Or, does anyone know if it was beginning to show it's age and becoming a maintance problem? Thanks in advance.

Im pretty sure that it was removed because it was taking up the space that raptor now stands in. I too remember riding that ride. it was alot of fun. the only other thing i can think of is it might of been because they had two flume rides (this and white water landings) and they thought it wasnt needed.

I fool so feelish...

The Mill Race was definitely removed to make room for Raptor; also because of decreased ridership. I remember for one or two years the ride being briefly called "the Nestea Plunge", does anyone else remember this and seeing the sign?
"The Nestea Plunge". Yes! I remember that!

"Twisted Sister" is the name of the new rollercoaster at Cedar Point for 2003. Just watch!

No CPfan76, decreased ridership was NOT a cause of "removal" of the Mill Race. The three reasons mention in the first post cover the removal.

And , YES, I remember the Nestea Plunge as the year I worked the ride it was called "the Nestea Plunge" , we would even give the "safety spiel" with the name...(said to riders as their boat was heading up the lift.."Attention riders, please prepare yourselves for the Nestea Plunge by sitting upright and holding on tight...etc.

I also remember many peolpe referring to the Mill RAce as "The Flintstone Ride", because of the log boats.

That was a great little Mine Ride. Does anyone know if it was sold or just demolished?
I don't imagine it was sold...

Too bad, it was one of my favorite rides when I was younger.

The Mill Race was great. It was fun watching the logs float by in the Silver Dollar Cafe.

However, I wonder if all the nostalgia isn't also leading us to forget that the lines in those days for the rides they had were much longer. I remember waiting 45 minutes or more to get on the Mill Race which had a dramatic 45 foot drop - who would put up with that now?

I seem to remember (from a loooong time ago) that the ride was indeed sold to a doctor I think. Can anybody back me up on that?

Jim

I was so sad to hear that they removed the Mill Race!

I rode it as a kid and worked as a ride host on the MR in 1987. The last time I got a chance to ride it was 1993 and then I moved to CA and by the time I made it back to the park it had already been retired.

Glad that I got pictures to remember it by (and the awesome memories of the summer I worked at the park - 24 years later and I can still remember the entire safety speil, and the blurb introducing Soak City: "New for 1988, Cedar Point will open Soak City, a $3M 5 acre attaction on the beach!" haha)
