Opening Weekend Questions

Me and my sister are making the 6 hour trip to Cedar Point for the Opening Weekend. This is our first time being at any park for it's opening. We have no idea what to expect. Is it anything near as bad as the 4th of July? Also, will the 12th be as busy as the 11th? If anybody can tell us anything about what we should expect to see out of the crowd and/or lines, we would greatly appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

If you do a quick search, there are many topics on guessing attendance on opening weekend. Here is the best advice out there:

If the weather is nice, Saturday will be busier than Sunday. Anything more specific is just a guess.

Go Sunday! Opening day will be packed due to Gatekeeper making its grand opening.

Have I missed info about media day? When does the parking lot open?

I must agree with some people who say opening day will be busy. With Gatekeeper debuting, it's bound to be very busy. Cedar Point hasn't had a major coaster opening since 2007, when Maverick opened, and I remember opening day was crowded. I'd expect Sunday will be less busy, so you should have a great day. Although no one can really predict just how many people will show up, but it looks like a big crowd could happen. Anyway, enjoy your weekend at Cedar Point!!

But Maverick didn't open on opening day. :)

If you have a ticket to OSU day, the day before, you get free entry into opening day, correct?

I would bet the vast, vast majority of those folks will turn right around and come back the next day. Why wouldn't they? And OSU sounds like it will be at least somewhat busy in and of itself.

Yea. It's gonna be busy.

Sunday around late afternoon it should start to thin out.

I have but three words of advice for you:

Fast Lane Plus.

At the very least, get Fast Lane.

If you can, drive up Saturday and buy a Starlight ticket and visit Sat evening, when the crowds have died down. Then go for the full day on Sunday

Thanks for all the help. Since we live so far out and are going to be "sick" from school on the 10th and 13th, we are just going to be there all day whatever days we can. Hopefully, there is a small shower on Saturday. Sounds like right when it would end would be our best chance to ride MF. But missing Opening Day isn't an option, because thats the whole point of coming out this weekend. As long as there isn't 4th of July crowds, were okay.

I'm pretty sure you only get in free if you stay in one of the resorts.

Yes, I think you're right about that. That certainly lessens the blow I suppose.
