Paramount acquisition results in some name changes

Carowinds changes the names of two of its coasters. Top Gun, the B&M inverted, has been changed to “Flight Deck”. And Borg Assimilator, the Vekoma flyer, has been changed to “Nighthawk”.

Kings Dominion has changed the name of its Italian Job Turbo Coaster to the “Back Lot Stunt Coaster”

If Kings Island is going to follow suit, it hasn’t done so yet according to their ride list on their website. Unless there was some licensing deal in the Paramount purchase, it would seem like these would’ve been changed in 2007, not 2008.

Flight Deck is hands down the worst name they've ever given to any ride in the company since Top Thrill Dragster (which, ironically enough, would've worked really well with a aircraft carrier/jet theme).

Flight Deck the worst name? To me it sounds like a generic Roller Coaster Tycoon name but Back Lot Stunt Coaster sounds WWAAAAYYY worse. Think about the GP now with names. Now think about them running through the park looking for the ride, asking where it is, and 'raving' about what theyve heard or read.

And TTD as an aircraft carrier?! Thats about as dumb as boxing in Avalanche Run, changing the name, adding theming, and calling it Disaster Transport. Sorry to say it, but its only one word off from Top FUEL Dragster which was the original theme. Think about dude...

Top Gun should have become Afterburner.

I like the name top thrill dragster, and I'm glad they changed the carowinds flyer's name. "borg" was an odd name anyway. Kings island still has to change face off, top gun, tomb raider, and Italian job.

I was only looking at roller coasters earlier, but "Tomb Raider: Firefall" as it's known at Kings Dominion will now be known as "The Crypt".

Apparently "Drop Zone" is generic enough that they're not changing its name, even though Paramount had a movie with the same title.

Just Dragster would have been fine for a name, I wish CP

would drop Top Thrill.  Top Gun should have been renamed to something 

patriotic, like "American Fight Flight" or something.

If everyone would pay attention to Screamscape, they would know all this already. :)

Yeah, a drag racer that takes off and goes 420 feet straight up into the air makes so much more sense than an airplane off of a carrier, which actually does go into the air. You sure got me there.

Is CF obsessed with the "Hawks"? Skyhawk, Nighthawk, and theres one more somewhere but I forget it. But atleast they have different names for coasters instead of 8 coasters having the same name like Six Flags.

Uhm, its generally considered a bad thing in drag racing when the nose leaves the ground the the car goes vertical.

Whereas its actually a good thing when an F-18 does that after leaving the deck of the carrier.

I'm obviously not going to complain about Dragsters name being CP's choice. But aside from the obvious fact that Top Fuel Dragsters don't go hundreds of feet into the sky, the main focus of CP's decision for the name was the launch, which (yes I know) has just as much potential with a aircraft carrier theme.
Though I consider Dragster (which is what most people say anyway)to be a far better name and theme for a rocket coaster than some of the others. For instance:

Xcelerator- simple to understand name and theme, but 1950 Chevrolet Bel Air convertibles didn't go over 200ft in the air either.
Storm Runner-A horse, no wait a storm?
Kingda Ka-Using a Tiger to represent the king of coasters?
Rita- Something to do with a lady named Rita I think.......
Stealth-Understandable theme, name not so much.
Speed Monster- Race car theming.....name not so much
Superman ESCAPE- Superman saves you from a disaster of sorts........hmmmm
Kanonen- you get shot out of a cannon I guess...
Sky Car- Got Theme?
Desert Race- I think there's a theme....not sure what it is in relation to the name.
Zaturn-Somthing only the japanese can understand I guess. (something to do with space I think)
Furius Baco- Probably the worst themed of all the rocket coasters.

So while Dragster doesn't have the best name-theme relation, it could be worse.......we could have monkeys and wine.:)

Monkeys and wine are fine by themselves.....but throw them together and whoa watch out! They'll shoot you on your wine barrel faster than they can fling poo at you!!
