Pet Chek Experience

I've seen some hit or miss reviews of Pet Chek on these forums before, so I figured I would post about my experience this past weekend (9/13-9/14).

Pet Chek opens an hour before the park opens and does not take reservations, so we made sure to get there early. We have a one year old 8 pound mini-poodle that has never been away from home before, so this was a new experience for him. We arrived and were greeted by a very friendly woman who explained the policies and price ($15/day). They do provide dry dog food and water, but you can feel free to bring your own dog food and treats. They make sure to ask you if they can give any extra treats to your animal before doing so.

Due to his size, our dog was put into the medium sized cages. He had plenty of room to move around and play with his toys. We left him several things to chew on as well as his own food. We saw that other owners had brought in their dog's blanket, but we know our dog will end up chewing it throughout the day.

This is where I have read bad reviews: the workers at Pet Chek do not handle your pets. This is due to policy, not their own accord. If the workers had it their way I'm sure they would LOVE to spend time with the animals. We did notice that one dog pooped in his cage and the woman opened it up and cleaned it out nicely so that the dog was not laying in its own filth.

Knowing this, we planned our day accordingly. We came back every 3-4 hours to check on our dog. We would take him out for a nice walk along the marina to make sure he went to the bathroom. Whenever we picked him up, he always seemed very happy, and did not mind going back in his cage when we left.

Pet Chek is open an hour past park closing, which we thought was very convenient as we stay at a hotel off property. We picked him up on the way out and this time there was a different woman working. She was also very friendly and seemed to genuinely love working with animals.

Overall, we had a good experience with Pet Chek. It's a great place to bring your animal if you are planning a last minute trip and cannot leave them home with someone and do not want to pay arm and a leg prices for a real kennel. We also really loved being able to go back and visit our dog throughout the day, as we consider him part of our family :) For the price and convenience, we'll definitely be using it again in the future.

** As a side note, I'm sure the people claiming "their dogs were covered in their own urine" either had never previously crate trained their animals, or did not take the time to check up on their animals throughout the day. Shame on you.

Remember, it's nice to be important- but it's more important to be nice.

We used Pet Chek yesterday for the first time and we had a great experience with it too. I was very happy and felt great leaving our puppy there. The cages were very spacious and I found the staff to be very caring. We will definitely use them again.
