Planet Snoopy: It's Official

There's really no need to 'test' anything if they're just putting a new image in the flash rotation, and it wouldn't cause the site to slow down. I'm sure it was just an accident and I wouldn't be surprised to see an announcement tomorrow or Friday.

Just because they said they'd be back on the 2nd, doesn't necessarily mean they'll blog on the 2nd. Just like I went back to work today. That doesn't actualy mean I worked. ;)

My son just wants to ride. He doesn't care if it's Snoopy or Spongebob.

I'm not saying characters aren't important, but it's not as critical as Disney World.

Well not all kids are like yours, a lot of kids might me scared of rides. I don't know.

What percentage of Cedar Point visitors, young are old, are scared of rides? I know there's lots to do beside ride, but, after all, the rides are the reason most people are there. Even the most timid of guests above 3 can find several things to ride.

How much of an impact does it really have if it's Spongebob rotating on Red Baron versus Snoopy?
Again, I'm not saying it isn't important, I just don't think it's as big a deal as everyone seems to think it is.

Agreed.

Not to mention I highly doubt that there would be an increase in attendance by children if Sponge Bob were to be introduced over Peanuts characters. It wouldn’t even matter if it were the Smurfs! Kids would still love being there, riding rides, playing in Smurf Village, hanging out with Smurfette, etc, etc, etc.

Damn shame they go with the Peanuts still...God what kids releates to Snoopy?

Quite frankly, last time I checked, I could relate a lot better to a character with a big head than giant sponge that runs around in his underwear, but, perhaps I wouldn't know what a kid relates to these days...

Could this really be photo shoped? It looks just like other flash items on the cp site.

Not surprisingly, it's the usual conspiracy theorists that think it's fake.

Yes it was made in Adobe Photoshop® more then likely...

I don't take the internet seriously enough to make up something like this plus other users saw it in the Flash cycle.

That would be one very impressive piece of work if it was Photoshopped.

I saw it on CP's web site. Though I am surprised that it was in the loop for such a short period of time, and then not seen again through the following day. Maybe it was an accident.

Universal Studios in Orlando must have a teaming arrangement with Nickalodean (sp?), as they feature several of their characters and have attractions based on their shows. Sponge Bob is present in stores and as a walk around character. I don't see any of it in Cedar Fair's future unless Universal gives up their licensing agreement.

JuggaLotus's avatar

^ - why? Universal is owned by NBC, and is licensing the Nick characters from Viacom. There is no reason Viacom couldn't continue the contract with Cedar Fair.

I don't think it'll happen due to money. As Walt said, who the characters are doesn't play as much of a role at regional parks as it does at Disney. The Peanuts licensing (I'm guessing) is dirt cheap compared to the Nick toons.

John

My 9 year loves Snoopy and the whole Peanuts gang, he has since he was a toddler. He loves to stay in the Snoopy rooms at the Breakers. When we go to the library he usually borrows some old Peanuts videos. He likes Spongebob too. If he had to choose between them, Snoopy wins every time.

I like the name Planet Snoopy and I like that it seems Peanuts will be around the park for a time to come.

The Nick properties are not exclusively licensed. Mall of America just jumped in for their park. I don't think Cedar Fair is in that much of a hurry to let go of the license in the former Paramount properties either.

Well, if the Nick properties are so broadly licensed, then maybe Cedar Fair is better off sticking with Peanuts. Helps set them apart from the crowd.

I think it will return. Somebody maybe might have deleted it while adding it to the site. Give them time it will return by tomorrow. :)
