Po!ntBuzz gathering

Has there ever been a 'meeting' of sorts for this group of members? I don't mean like Coaster Mania, but more for people that follow this web page solely for Cedar Point. I personally think it'd be fun & interesting to meet you. I don't belong to any enthusiast club, or see a need to just for CP. Or do some feel the potential face-to-face debates would be too much? A Po!ntBuzz party of sorts, at CP! Administrators...any thought of this?

I'm not an admin, but I will say...

Be careful what you wish for!

:-)

^In all seriousness, can I ask why?

Aren't the winter tours a Pointbuzz gathering? I forget if they are open to all coaster clubs, off the top of my head I think they are only Pointbuzz.

I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.

There have been winter events the past 2 or more off seasons

Pete, it was open to everyone and anyone earlier this year. A trend I think will/should continue since it really helps out Give Kids the World.

All of our recent off-season events have been open to everyone. Even a few years ago, though, we advertised events among us here, but it's not like we had a membership card or ID check.

Last year, Cedar Point took over and made it an official event - Winter Chill Out - though we still helped with the registration.

We've talked about doing something. Last year, we floated the idea of meal featuring a Q&A about the 2014 Gemini Midway plans with Cedar Point staff. It didn't pan out, but I like the idea that, if we do something, it's something unique and not an another ERT event. Janeen made a great point of Cedar Point enthusiasts versus coaster enthusiasts. Not that you can't be both, or that most aren't both.

Who knows. Maybe someday we'll do PointBuzz Club - a club for Cedar Point enthusiasts. :)

I really like this idea. While I am certainly a "Coaster Enthusiast" I am equally (and separately) a "Cedar Point Enthusiast".

It might be fun to have a "back stage" or "Hidden spots" type of tour from someone with some long term institutional memory of Cedar Point. The Ball Room, Upstairs at Fort Sandusky, the Frontier Lift Station - A look at areas that have remnants of closed dark rides or outdoor areas that are off limits to the public but still hold vestiges of old retired rides.

An evening reception in the Ball Room could be lots of fun.

I would enjoy a talk/walking tour from John Hildebrandt about the evolution of the park during his 40 years. I don't know if he is still in the area or if he would be interested but that could be quite educational.

Anything that would involve doing a Halloweekends related event sounds like a good idea. ;)

^^You can go up to the ballroom during the season & take a gander. Frontier lift holds supplies, it's a giant closet. Closed Dark Rides (like Pirate Ride) hold supplies too.

You're not missing much honestly. It's not like you're going to go up the lift and see cabins sitting on the floor or something.

Where is the frontier lift station at?

Frontier Town bathrooms between Mine Ride and Skyhawk.

It's the bathrooms next to Skyhawk and Snake River Falls.

I'll also mention that until last year, Coasterbuzz had a BooBuzz event during Halloweekends for many years. That changed last year, when the park hosted a larger event for enthusiasts to open Halloweekends. I have not see any news this year about any Halloweekends events.

The Frontier Lift Station is the building that houses restrooms on the first floor in Frontier Town between Mine Ride and Sky Hawk. You can still see the doors on the second floor where the cars would enter and exit. Once you realize what you are looking at you can see the resemblance to the midway lift stations.

You're right. I looked at it on Google maps, and it really does look like the station of a lift.

You know, if you go through the kiddie haunt in the old Pirate Ride building in the fall, you can actually see where the track used to be on the floor, complete with tire marks.

If we went through during haunt time that'd be a good time to get a small sneak peek, but most of the season it's filled with sweep stuff.

Good points all.

I have "Snuck" up the stairs to look at the ballroom but the stairs are clearly marked "No Admittance" or something similar to let me know I wasn't supposed to be there. It was dark and while it was cool to see, it would be more fun to not be breaking the rules to be there.

Maybe I am wrong, but I just assumed there might be some cool remnants and sights to see from a historical prospective that could make for an interesting day.

Considering the span of time John H was with the company he has really seen most of the major changes that took place from the Roose era forward. "The stories he could tell"...and I want to hear them all!

I would love to see a Q&A session with Jason and Tony similar to what Jeff hosted with Dick Kinzel at the Red Garter several years ago.

I ran into Hildebrandt Opening Day this year. He was still roaming the midways as per usual, which I found to be quite amusing. I stopped to talk to him for a quick minute, he said he is working on a book, so maybe in the future that may hold the stories you wish to hear.
