Project 2007 Blog Update

i REALLY hope CP doesn't even attempt to theme whatever it is they're building here. They failed miserably at disaster transport, and although the attempt was good at TTD, that was even cut in the end. I'm a little perplexed with the red track too. maybe this track isn't for the footings we see?? maybe this track is for their other ride they're building?? :)

Actually they did a spectacular job with Disaster Transport and a crappy job with TTD. For a good 5-6 years after the conversion for DT, it was great, however they decided the money spent on actually maintaining all the animatronics, voice-overs and other stuff wasn't worth it.
Recently, yes DT has become quite disappointing, but when it first opened it was one of the best themed thrill rides anywhere. Remember that at that point, the only "thrill" rides Disney had were Space and Thunder mountains.

Is it me, or does Dragsters theming not even go along with the ride?

When I think of Top Fuel Dragsters I think of 2 tracks. Not a single track... Racing is something this ride does not do.

I think it would of been more appropriate if it would of been themed to a Naval Aircraft Carrier especially considering the height factor.

Besides, it would of been funny to see some ride op in a flight suit waving you into position on the "flight deck."

Or doing ballet ala Hot Shots.

Thank God I'm not the only one who thinks that. I would have much rather seen the Carrier theme. I think it would fit much better since its never a good thing for a TFD to go vertical.

Of course, a park to the south of them has a pretty extensive carrier themed coaster and that may have seemed a bit redundant.

"but your vehicle is like no dragster on earth. As your 2800 foot drag strip takes a sharp turn straight up, into the sky, 420 feet..." Coming straight from the TTD promo.

And any time I have seen a Dragster do a 90 degree vertical turn, nothing good happens. It usually results in metal (shavings) being strewn around and fluids leaking everywhere and is just a complete mess. ;)

My belief is if you don't have the money to maintain something, you shouldn't build it in the first place. That's why I think disaster transport's theming has failed miserably.

Sure, all of us "fans" go there all the time and know what it was like in its "glory days". But, what about the millions of people are are riding it for the first time? WOW! Can you imagine what they think of that ride queue? I shudder at the though actually.

TTD on the other hand is ok in the fact that losing the wheels and spoiler doesn't really affect the theming all that much to new visitors. The never knew it was there, so to them, it probably still looks like a dragster because of the nose.

Along the same lines, that's why you'll NEVER see small parks installing rides like TTD. There is just no way they'd have the money to maintain it. So, they don't build it. The same should apply to theming.

Its not the maintenance cost that keeps small parks from owning Dragsters and Millenniums, its the 25 million dollar up front price tag.

I never said CP didn't have the money to maintain it. I'm sure that even now they have the money to return it and keep it up. Its a matter of after that 5 or 6 years (maybe a little longer), a decision was made to cut the budget for maintaining the ride. Apparently they felt that it could be better spent elsewhere.

personally I think this is going to be a "new section" of Frontier Town. I believe that this section will include some new flats and two new coasters "put two and two together." I think that one of the coasters will be an Intamin ball coaster. If you look at "THE PICTURES" the track looks identical to that of the prototype ball coaster.(which is even red) The other reason that leads me to believe that there will be two coaster is because the ball coaster can only be built vertically which leaves plenty of room for some new flats and another coaster.

Am I aloud to link pictures of the prototype ball coaster Walt?

If it is a Ball Coaster, another reason to why there will be another coaster is because of the footers currently in Swan Pond and the former WWK site.

That is true^ I forgot to put that in.

Dont forget that the Intamin Ball coasters track is the same as most of their other coasters.

There's a large number of coasters it could be if it's Intamin track. See, they like to keep us confused.:)

isn't B&M track wider than intamin? or, is it the same width? i figured with 4 riders across, the track would be wider too.

Both company's rails are 48" apart on center, if I'm not mistaken. Although the dive machine's track gauge is a bit wider, I think.

I hope not. We've already got one coaster that only works part of the time, we don't need another.

I seriously dont think it's a ball coaster given the layout of the footers that we know of so far. The Intamin Ball coaster is more of a compact coaster.....like the S&S Screamin Squirrel.

Don't Worry, come tomorrow, there will be a lot of pictures. If I am not mistaken, Walt or Jeff stated that they will have "In Depth" coverage of Project 2007. "EEEEEEHA"
