Prom vs. Coastermania

No it's not strictly a father daughter thing, because last year my dad brought his girlfriend and her niece who goes to my school this year. ( My dad and I are both ACE members ). Her niece this year joined track, so doesn't think she can make it. But I don't know my boyfriend's parents would deal with him staying over night with a girlfriend (even though he will be a couple weeks shy of 18 years old). And especially my dad probably wouldn't want a boy spending the night with me. If there were seperate rooms maybe, but still probably not :(.

Well....you could always ask....this might sound corny, but I would go to your dad with your dilema (youve got these posts as proof of your attempts to solve it).

See what he says.

If you could get him on your side, perhaps one set of parents would be willing to work something out with another set of parents...

Any dad taking his daughter to coastermania cant be that bad! :)

I was talking to him a little bit. He doesn't want to drive at 1 or 2 am, thats why morning ERTs are out of the question since I'm going to prom. But I'll ask him, I'll talk to my boyfriend too see what he thinks his parents would say.

Man if I had a girlfriend that dug coasters I'd skip my own prom to go to CP, Plus prom isnt that great anyway, it costs too much for the guy.

You should move down here to Hilliard, OH. Our prom is on May, 6th. But don't skip prom, even if it's your senior year. You never know what can happened between now and next year.

In my experience, the more people you can include on a problem you have (that care about you, anyway), the better the result...so give it a shot.

To reframe it, I think youre in a win win situation here. Some people dont ever go to prom or coastermania, and youre blessed with the chance to do both!

I have been to 3 proms and never once bought my date's dress, hairstyle, jewelry or shoes..

i say go to coastr mania cause ill get to see you again but then again prom and your bf might have to comfirst

The girl has to buy the dress and stuff.. all that is expensive too.

And yeah, I guess it is a win win situation, it is still going to be really tight on time with whatever I do.

Hey Kevin (CP/PKIDUDE)! Long time no see! How are you?

I'm an ass, but I'd take Coastermania over prom any day. :)

Coastermania is cheaper, I'm sure the food is better (plus I can get a CHEESE ON A STICK!) and it's cheaper unless you were to stay in a very expensive breakers room.

plus dancing isn't my thing

plus high school stinks.

Prom is something I didn't go to. I broke up with my girlfriend a week before junior prom and I didn't go for that reason. Senior year I spend the night in the hospital so I wasn't able to attend Prom. Looking back at it I wish that circumstances would have been better.

Prom.

Think of it this way - The only new ride you're passing up is Skyhawk. And while this ride will likely be great, all signs point to something much bigger and better coming for '07, so prom this year and CM next year sounds like a winning combo - especially because I'm fairly sure SH will still have ERT next year. You may be bummed out for a while having missed CM, but as soon as you finally do get to CP this summer, those feelings will fade pretty fast, I'm sure.

Of course, you may want to get on your school's prom committee next year to try and avoid any more scheduling conflicts. ;)

Reminds me of a crossroad I encountered my senior year...

I qualified for a national contest doing VB programming my senior year. That year the contest was to be held in Anaheim, CA. I was going to be away the entire week, taking off school, going to Disneyland, and staying in a hotel with some of the closest of friends that I could make during my senior year.

Unfortunately I would miss my senior prom and break the heart of my girlfriend of one year. We went to our junior prom and had a blast, but I had also gone to a similar national contest my junior year in Minneapolis, MN, which was a week before our prom. I had a blast out there and I knew what I had experienced on both ends.

I had a huge decision to make, and while a lot of you will think I was a poor schlub for doing this. I missed my contest for my senior prom.

Now I'm married, but not to the girl I missed my contest for. I still look back and to think that I had the chance to go to Anaheim sounded so great at the time, yet I'm still very, very glad that I didn't miss my senior prom. I don't regret the decision I made, because I knew what was more important to me.

You only have one or two proms (for one loser in my school he went to 7 until the age of 21 barrier kept him out) in your life. California, Disneyland, Cedar Point, Coastermania, whatever you want to do will be there for hopefully another year. Your time and prom won't be there for another year, it's final. Goodluck on your choice.

Prom was totally lame when I went, the food was gross also. Go to CP.
