Question 'bout the Pirate Ride

Hi, all--- I've had a question for the longest time and I'm glad I finnaly found an outlet to ask it. As a kid one of the rides I looked forward to every year was the Pirate Ride. I know it was eliminated in the ?early 90's? I thought it had something to do with the Raptor. I thought the building was gone but on the the Blue Streak's hill the other day the I noticed the building there plain as day. Why was it eliminated????

Thanks All,
Burk
Yep, the building is still there, now as an arcade. A lot of us here are/were distraught over them removing the Pirate Ride. There were previous threads that discussed this, if you do a history search (go back at least 2 months) in the archives of this discussion board.

Still not completely sure why they removed it though.

I can think of a couple of reasons...

1) Park Services wanted the rest of the building (Park Services and the Blue Streak's air compressor and computer are in the back of that building)

2) The Pirate Ride was suffering from vandalism problems

3) Park Services wanted the space

4) The Pirate Ride was an expensive ride to operate, insure, and maintain (see (2))

5) Park Services needed more space

I wasn't happy to see it go as well. The arcade like said before blows big time.

LONG LIVE THE PIRATE RIDE!!!!!!

I am sensing pirateride.com coming into existence very soon. That was one of my very favorite rides and one you could relax on and truly enjoy. It was one of the last old fashioned rides they had at CP.
Frankly it was a pretty cheesy county-fair level dark ride. Yet I had an attachment to it dating from childhood. To me, what's sad is they chose to replace it with another pointless arcade rather than investing in making a really good dark ride.

BTW, I always liked the San Francisco Earthquake even more. Maybe that's why I'm living in the Bay Area now.

I had an attachment to it as well-it was the first thing I ever rode at CP! Second was Mill Race and it was taken away as well. I like at least seeing a few props from PR out during Halloween, it sure brings back memories,I am only 28 now and I rode it when I was 13 the first time I went to CP and was actually afraid of coasters.
I miss the giant ship outside the front of the ride. When we were kids we would listen for the cannons to shoot and watch the water [fountains] splash around it.
