searching

Not sure if its just my profile or what, but apparently the search doesn't work.

No matter what I put in, I get "No results to display". I just now searched for the word "open" and it found nothing.

Well, yes they can. You can use Google and put "site:pointbuzz.com" on the end of your search.

And "no one" is two words.

hmm, well they're in mine. Since they are a part of the english language and you understood what I was saying, everything is good.

I'm going to assume both of you are being sarcastic and attempting to be funny, even though we can't tell tone of voice over the internet. I would hate to think the both of you have more to do in your life than trying to be an online english teacher. But then again, this topic of discussion has been complained about Many times over. But again, I'll assume both of you were making an attempt to be funny.

More than being an english teacher, they are probably tired of seeing the language massacred online. Nobody is perfect, but a little attention goes a long way.

Maybe so. However I believe my "aight" and missed space between "no" and "one" is VERY minor. But, anyone may post anything they like correcting me, seeing as it IS a public forum. However, I will continue to post as I wish and use words like "aight".

Just making the point that I don't care. If Jeff is REALLY that bored, he can use his universal editing power and correct it, AIGHT? :)

It's one thing if you make a long post (a few paragraph) and there are a few typos, but when its only a sentence or two, it takes all of ten seconds to read it over, correct it, and press submit. I can usually understand what is posted, but the typos just make you look bad.

I even make typos now and again and I always get a sarcastic comment with them. Instead of coming back at them, I use the edit button and fix the error and say something like "my bad, I fixed it." It's that simple and it saves the arguement and saves the thread discusion.

Carpy, speak English. And, no, your ridiculously destroyed version of alright is not clever, cute, funny or original. The only time that word is spoken outside of rap is to mock those that use it outside of rap, understand? Sure, every now and then all of us use a bit of slang when its acceptable, but there's no need to use it constantly, except to satisfy your twisted urges. I'd bet there are plenty of other fora where you can use "aight" and other witless slang, but you'll find it pretty unwelcome here.

And, lastly, why in the name of everything that is sacred can people not use the English language anymore? Did they stop teaching grammar & spelling in school? Or did parents collectively decide to stop making sure kids were doing "there" homework?!? Its not words like recommend or questionnaire that are being obliterated, but simple things that I seem to remember learning fairly early on in life.

I think you guys are being way too nitpicky.

Yeah, we probably are. But it wouldn't be so bothersome if it weren't so commonplace these days. And its not just at PB, just more obvious here.

My biggest gripe is that because its so common, its become almost acceptable. Or, even worse, its conceived as rude to point out their mistakes.

I am surprised people get upset about this, while in the past few days, we have such diverse topics as...

1) How much fun it will be to PREDICT the number of times one might visit the park this season, and then compare that to ACTUALIZED visits.

2) A discussion on which weather predicting utility is best fit to predict the weather on May 6 from 9, 8, ... 2, and 1 days in advance.

and, my least favorite...thankfully it was closed:

3) a 30+ -year-old's discussion on which snacks make for the best road food on less-than-an-hour 'road trip' to Cedar Point. (If you don't know, it's a cheese and sausage tray. Yes, you read that right.)

Perhaps you are now aware that in the grand scheme of Internet message boards, there are better things to complain about than poor grammar. I completely agree about the thread quality. They are two different monsters, though. While those threads you mentioned (and there are many others) are pretty silly, they don't violate the rules and so long as people are posting in them, they're technically constructive.

Grammar and spelling, while listed in the guidelines, are more of a problem than simply being irritating to read. To me at least, it speaks volumes of the future state of our youth. Trying to keep things grammatically correct and spelling errors at a minimum is productive in that it prevents people from being bombarded with incorrect dialogue and incorrectly spelled words, so that they will be less likely to repeat those mistakes. I'm sure I'm making this much more epic than it need be, I don't see the harm in offering corrections every so often, if only to make a point. Who knows? Maybe someone will listen. And that would be progress.

I've got a problem with blatant spelling and grammar issues because those posts are hard to read. But I'm not going to lose sleep over a typo or incorrect use of "there."

The occasional typo isn't an issue, nor is the occasional mis-use of there/they're/their. However when someone's entire post uses one form of there/they're/their in place of the correct versions it makes it very hard to read.

Not to mention when someone has a difficult time following simple grammar rules, I tend to dis-credit whatever they have to say. They may have some new insight into a topic under discussion but their lack of intelligent expression can exclude their arguments from being considered. Pointing something out is meant to try and help someone, not just trying to make me feel better about myself, which is the usual response when pointing out errors.

Agreed with Walt. What this has turned into is yet another ridiculous topic.

I'm sorry you guys have nothing else better to do than finding topics to criticize because there were a total of 2 typos. Not only were you able to understand what I was saying, but I do think all of you realize how minor this really is. It's time to grow up and move on. Let's try sticking to dicussing topics about Cedar Point, instead of trying to put down each other or boss someone else around trying to tell them how to post or how to type. I'm pretty tired of reading about it on every single topic on this site. Obviously nothing is going to change because that's what happens online. People make mistakes. Grow up and get over it; or get a life, whichever the case is for yourself.
