Smoking in line

Does Cedar Point allow smoking in the Que line.
Do they allow it? Nope.

Do people ignore the rules and do it anyway? Yep.

Does that tick me off? Yep.

Have I ever said something? Yep.

Have I put a call in to security? Yep.

Have I ever had a confrontation other than that? Nope.

Do I wish that people had more courtesy? Yep.

Smoke in a line I'm in, and I'll ask you to put it out. Refuse, and I'll call the folks who are paid to handle that sort of situation (although deep down, I'm kinda wishing you'll start something with me personally) :)
They have signs that say not to, but people do anyway. That is one of my biggest annoyances, and I think CP's security should enforce it more.

It seemed to only be a sporadic problem for me. Magnum during the day was a problem it seemed, because the cops didn't spend much time there until dark. Other than that, it wasn't too bad.

But I would tend to agree that people need to extend a bit more courtesy when you're in close quarters like that.

When Im in line I smoke, but it is only if I already have one lite. Then after that I dont smoke in line. If someone says somthing to me I always put it out, but remember its just if I had one already lite.

I applaud your efforts, Mr. Cahill. We need more people taking stands.

Age and treachery will always overcome youth and skill.
Disaster Transport is the worse with smoking. People smoke Weed and things like that in there. I like being high on a roller coaster but on the ground is bad.

I too am for NO SMOKING in the queues. For that matter I would would appreciate NO SMOKING in the whole park. We all know that if CP banned smoking, that 1) the lines would still be full of people wanting to "ride" and 2) smoking would still continue because the majority of individuals either inside or outside the park feel that they don't have to follow the rules or laws for that matter any more. Coast, thank you for offering to put it out if asked :)
Hm, secondary smoke contains more carcinogens(sp?) then mainstream smoke. I will ask people to put out a cigarette because of this reason. That, and the smell sickens me.

Homer Simpson: Will you stop your spontaneous cussing?
Bart Simpson: Hell yeah.
Well, I'm flat-out ALLERGIC to tobacco. Cigarette smoke can LITERALLY make me sick. I'll ask nicely, but if someone's rude and ignores me, or even worse blows smoke in my face (it's happened), then I WILL call security.

The rules say no smoking in line, and it can't be THAT hard to comply.

Apparently hooked on phonics didn't work for smokers! (as in courtesy in line) Personaly I don't see why people smoke in the first place!
In line for Raptor theres always someone smoking, even if its ten rows over I can still smell and gag on it. But I do have to say thanks to those who put it out when asked!!!!!!!

I my opinion, Magnum's line is the worst. I have yet to be in that line without someone smoking.
Holy cow - a bit of reality check for all you non-smokers (from a former smoker) if I may.

Do you REALLY want CP security chasing down smokers? C'mon!!!!!! I saw a guy deck his "girlfriend" in front of Power Tower last year and CP security came almost instantly came down the midway to get him. I for one was glad they weren't chasing down evil smokers(!) in the Magnum line. Emergencies are domestic violence, lost kids, medical emergencies, etc. and not inconvienced air space - (you'll live - it only burns for 10 minutes at most).

I for one, always followed the rules for no smoking in line (Don't have to worry about it now :)) Also, like it or not, courtesy is a two-way street - even though you know they're breaking the rules, be polite and ask someone to put it out nicely. (most will - if not, they're poor excuses for human beings) If they won't put it out, let a ride-op know. *** This post was edited by Mango Madness on 5/1/2000. ***
I'll put in my 2 cents worth as well. Regardless of enforcement, I personally have observed a noticeable decrease in smokers in queues since Cedar Point put up the signs a couple of years ago.

I do not care for secondhand smoke, so I am pleased to see people voluntarily showing consideration. I have seen security guards ask folks to put out their cigarettes if they are patrolling the line, and usually people cooperate.

Sure, you will get some belligerent smokers arguing against it, just as you will get belligerent non-smokers (I don't mean to offend anyone; I simply refer to people who cause a scene). But overall, since the signs have gone up, I find the queues to be much more pleasant places (on the whole).

Now, if we could just do something about that loud music while in line.....oh, I forgot...the B&Ms drown it out.
Amen Mango!! Yep, I smoke, and yes I do smoke in line (where its not covered), but as I do with my friends, or at my own house with a non smoker, if someone asks me to put it out usually I do. Sometimes I will ask the ones around me if they mind I smoke. And yes smoke is bad, but to a point I dont see much difference between me smoking at Cp or someone getting blitzed on beer all day long and getting in their car and driving home. Well actually I do, the person drinking is going to kill someone faster than my cig will! And when I didnt smoke, I would rather stand in line with someone smoking then seeing someone chewing tobacco and spitting it all over the ground, ever been next to one of them? I'll admitt I smoke in line, but I have the grace to put it out if askes NICELY, or ask before I light up. I dont chain smoke one after another, in one line, I may smoke one or a half of one, I mean we are outside, I understand the not smoking in the resturanunts, and I respect that. But smoking outside where the line is not covered, yes I do that!

I think if it is posted and securtiy catch you they should boot you if you have a season pass 3 strikes and your out for the rest of the season
If I am standing in a line where someone is smoking I just give them dirty looks everytime they pass me, it drives me crazy if its hot out and someone is smoking in one of the longer waiting lines it gives me a huge headache. I have never even had a smoke before but I don't see why they can't just wait untill the ride is over!!!!

The rule exists so people don't have to ask you to put it out. Let's be honest, people generally keep to themselves in the queue to begin with, what makes you think that they're going to speak up and say something?

Smokers: I can't understand how you can't go an hour without a smoke, but that aside, it should be fairly obvious that people don't want to be around it, so why do you do it in the first place? Judging by the reactions here, you'll obviously irritate people the moment you light up. Why not follow the rules and save us the trouble of having to ask you to comply to the posted policy?

I'm not trying to judge anyone here, I have friends who smoke. But my friends will not put me or others in this situation in a queue. I ask that you do the same.

Park visits May 6, 7, 10, 11, 13, 14, 16, etc...
Point understood Jeff, but like I stated before, I dont chain smoke in line like some, and I do it on occasion in a line thats not enclosed. It also bothers me to stand next to someone who is intoxicated and sweaty, but I dont complain about them drinking a beer in line, or walking around the park sloshed. My one cig ever hour or two is no different then someones car blowing smoke all in the air. This is one of them topics that both sides are right and neither side will see the other ones completely. ( I think we once touched on this topic before.) I am aware of my surroundings and if someone asks, or if I notice that someone is bothered by it without being ignornant about it, I put it out! But outside is outside, and thats the way I see it. Sorry non smokers. And for those who state " I just dont understand why you cant wait an hour after the ride is over till you smoke", thats just the problem, you dont understand! If you have never smoked you dont understand the addiction, and why its hard to wait an hour or two. I myself wish I had never started to smoke, and as we speak, I am down to less then a pack a day, and hope to someday quit. But if you have never smoked, youll never understand why one cant wait!!!

It's this simple: If you're in line for my ride and you refuse to extinguish your cigarette (I've seen a few), you don't ride. You will be *nicely* asked to leave the queue. As ride ops, we take it to be just as serious as line jumping.

Sound tough? Consider the fact that I too am a smoker. I know it’s hard, but please be thoughtful of the other guests and get as much of a nicotine fix as you can BEFORE you get in line. It makes our job that much easier when we don't have to be occupied with smokers in line.
