Soak City Incident

As Someone who does pray I have to say I don't normally feel any urge to post anywhere public when I am praying about something specific. I just do it and move on without telling the world. Likewise on the very rare occasions I have posted anything asking my friends or family to pray for some particular situation I don't expect any acknowledgement that they are.

Those comments about praying being useless makes me wish this site had a vote down button. I pray and the read the Bible every day.

Not sure how speculation of a possible event at Soak City turned into a topic dealing with religion/prayer....

I was always told to avoid most conversations about politics, religion or sex...guess its still safe to stick with weather topics.

So,...hows the weather in Sandusky?

PyroKinesis09 with all due respect, there (could) be, and if there are, we NEED to Pray for them. Thoughts and Prayers are never insulting. My family and I are still Praying for the people who were effected by the flooding in West Virginia and the Wild Fires in California.

If you "NEED" to pray then thats your prerogative, and thats fine if thats what you feel you need to do. I have no problem with that. But, I do have a problem with people telling me "I" need to pray. People can be concerned for people without the need to pray.

I think we need to stop making a mountain of a mole hill. Fire trucks, ambulances and police cars going down parameter road are not an infrequent occurrences. I respect people's spiritual beliefs but in this case I think "move on, there is nothing to see here" applies very well.

I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.

I don't think anyone is arguing that prayer and religion is a significant part of life for many people and is very important to them. The issue at hand comes when something happens like the Orlando shooting or another incident and someone wishes their "thoughts and prayers" without actually giving a thought or prayer to the situation as soon as those words come out of their mouth or on their Facebook page. Actually praying in your own private life and time over these situations has never come into question. Replying to a Facebook status with "Prayers" and permanently forgetting about the situation is the issue folks have.

Praying in order to help victims of a tragedy is useless (and bonus narcissist points for posting about it on Facebook).

Looking at the comments, I don't think anyone here has any issue with folks praying for personal comfort, inner calm, or whatever. Also, such praying does seem to have merit, in the same way that meditation does, for example.

But if you're praying in lieu of actually doing something to help, you've failed at helping, and only succeeded at making yourself feel better about not doing anything.
