Stay in a hotel this season.

When I went to CP in July I stayed in one of those inexpensive hotels on Cleveland Road. It was OK for me. It was close to the causeway and beats driving home tired. Nothing much worse than dring home 250 towards Ashland at night.

I work in a hotel as a front desk clerk. Its quite lonely sometimes as you are usually by yourself. We do get some people who have been at Cedar Point and are just to tired to travel any longer.

I would like to hear other people's experiences with hotels and if anyone here works or has worked in a hotel.

I've had that situation many times. For the past couple years, my family stayed at Comfort Suites and we have been very happy with how clean, quiet, and great continental breakfast. While CP's resorts are ideal and Kalahari is very tempting, I would recommend staying at Comfort Suites to anyone. Rates aren't bad at all before Memorial Day weekend in May.

Driving after a long day at the park isn't safe. I had one bad experience where the person who was driving a church group and me nodded off on the highway. Luckily no got hurt, but it really scared all of us.

Another recommendation would have to be Lighthouse Point. Unfortunately we don't have MrScot to tell everyone all about the greatest rooms on property. You fall asleep to the calming waves and wake up to Mean Streak doing testruns.

I always camp at East Harbor State Park in Marblehead. It's about 40 minutes from the park, but I absolutely love camping and that's such a nice campground. :)

Ah the pluses of living in Toledo, take a right on first street, wave goodbye to all the traffic on 250 and speed towards home, 1.25 hours away.

However, if I was going to stay the night at CP, I would still pay for the Breakers because nothing beats walking out of your hotel and in less then 5 min being at the park.

If you own an RV, I highly recommend Camper Village at Lighthouse point. Fullhook-up and even cable TV. Each site has a nice clean concrete patio. No, this is not camping, it is a place to park your cottage on wheels. :)

The old loop needs a lot of help and some sites are a joke at best. Small, tight and bunched in way too close together. I will never park my RV in this area again!

Breakers is very nice and we will return. Breakers Express was pretty nice, about equal to a Comfort Inn without the continental breakfast. Though my in-laws had a room that smelled pretty moldy closing weekend. Our room was OK and clean. I have stayed at Comfort Suites near KI and think that it was much nicer than BE.

Why does CP close all the hotels during the off season? I would love to stay at Breakers in the winter. There are many others open year round on the lake (Maumee Bay SP, Sawmill Creek, etc.). It is a very nice atmosphere any time of year IMO.

I always stay at the Motel 6 right where 250 meets the turnpike. It close enough that you dont have a rediculas drive to the park, yet far enough away that its only $50 per night.

R.I.P. MrScott... You're greatly missed!!

I don't think the hotels are equipped with the necessary heating equipment for the cold winter months.

I've endorsed Super 8 Sandusky North before and I'll do it again. It's on 250 very close to CP as well as Meijer, Walmart, Target, restaurants, etc. And the rates are reasonable.

Dvo, is that a good park for tent camping?

R.I.P: The Mayor, Mr. Scott

East Harbor's sites can be a little on the small side when compared to other Ohio State Park campgrounds. It also gets very busy on the weekends, but the crowds tend to thin out during the week. It is still a great place to camp and swim at the beach.

I share the same opinions about Camper Village as "Mean People Suck". Three years ago we decided to upgrade to the full hookup (i.e. Lighthouse Point) sites and haven't gone back to the old loop. The staff is always very friendly, and they do an awesome job keeping the sites and bathrooms clean throughout the day.

No offense intended to you Vince982, but where did this lack of heat rumor start? Every hotel that I have stayed in has heat and cooling, including my CP resort stays. What is up with that? Again, I am not trying to offend you or be mean, but where did the no heat thing come from? Am I missing something here? Who builds a building that is intended to serve people without the thought of heating or cooling, unless it is a garage or something similar?

I like the Comfort Inn in Huron.

I'm almost positive the lobby of Hotel Breakers isn't heated.

Also, the logic of keeping the resorts open all year is very pointless. CP did it many years with the Raddison and made very little money in the winter. Which is why it was turned into Castaway Bay.

Being on the lake front, I would think that the Breakers or Sandcastle Suites might do alright, but I don't know this for sure. I do know that there are numerous other lakefront resorts open year round and are doing fine. For example, Sawmill Creek is just down at the edge of the same barrier beach that CP is located on and it is my understanding that they are doing good. Though, they have a conference center and probably draw more due to this. I don't have an answer as to whether it would be viable, but I would love to stay at Sandcastle Suites in the winter, the view is wonderful in January.

Doesn't Breakers have a conference center too? And, don't they have another conference center right next door (near Ocean Motion)?

I know the rooms are heated, but the rest of the buildings may not be. I don't know exactly if or how CP winterizes the hotel buildings.
